Dojo Sante, is a martial arts and fitness facility of peace and sanctity which will be launching under Sensei Matthew Babine, formerly of Tokyo Joe’s. Changing the name to Dojo Sante will be giving parents, children and instructors a new found inspiration to take their Martial Art and Fitness to a whole new level. A little over five years ago Matthew opened his first Dojo in

Susie’s, it has now grown into the state . Originally 1,200 square feet, his studio has now grown by more than 4,000 square feet. “Our growth has not only been in the numbers of children we teach, but our growth has also been internal, and for that I am very grateful,” Babine said.

What began as the “Little Dojo that could” has now matured into a Martial Arts complex that not only teaches children and young adults the discipline of Martial Arts, it offers classes for the entire family like kickboxing, weight training, nutrition and wellness. Dojo Sante strives to teach each class as if it were the “most important class that we will ever teach.” Personally selected instructors remain committed to teach students to not only protect themselves both mentally and physically, but are committed to prepare each student “to be a leader and goal orientated” while fostering an understanding of respect, loyalty, and discipline. One of Sensei Babine’s triumphs is working with children who

have ADHD, autism, social and behavioral issues and teens who have been the victims of bullying. Many unfocused kids have gained confidence through his training. Sensei Babine and his other exceptional instructors is a win-win.

Classes offered at Dojo Sante are organized and developed for all age groups and experience levels. Whether the student is a “Little Ninja” or “Thai Kick Black Belt,” students love to come to class as they realize that Dojo Sante remains focused on the importance of having integrity and discipline in everything that they do in the lives of each of our students by sharing the importance of discipline, respect, and integrity in everything they do” Dojo Sante’s growth has given Sensei Matthew the opportunity to partner with Style Network’s TV Reality star, Katie Boyd, who specializes in physical fitness, health, and wellness. Owner of her own boutique fitness facility Katie Boyd’s Miss Fit Club, Boyd brings her many years of experience with personal training and nutrition to Dojo Sante. Boyd trains elite athletes, beauty pageant contestants, models, New England Patriot cheerleaders, and suburban housewives. Together, they and the Style Network, have selected Dojo Sante to produce and film their ongoing television TV series Wicked Fit. Wicked Fit is a reality based television show that takes viewers inside of a women-only boutique gym run by former beauty queen Katie Boyd. Katie is a Boston-based trainer and former pageant queen who may look beautiful on the outside, but inside she is as

tough as a drill sergeant” states Style.com. Sensei Matt states that he is very “excited to be a part of this show.

The show is televised as far away as Australia. I am very thankful for my staff for all their support which has allowed me to continue this venture.” “We are very excited about the opportunity to do this show because it is not about being thin, it is about being healthy,” comments Katie Boyd. The change and growth in his business has offered Babine the opportunity to expand and develop more programs designed for health and wellness which will compliment his karate instruction programs. While earning two black belts and specializing in the teachings of Kempo and Tae Kwon Do, Sensei Matt, with Boyd’s help, will now be positioned to expand their classes to teach wellness and health to all ages. “Not only can we can now add more children classes, we can

now design classes to help parents with their wellness and health concerns,” continued Sensei Matt. “Katie will be offering High intensity interval training, as well as individualized nutritional programs. I am very thankful of this partnership between Style Network’s Wicked Fit and Dojo Santé. Katie Boyd will be hosting a fitness seminar on February 11. During the seminar, individuals who wish to have their body fat measured as well as participate in a nutrition discussion will be invited to do so. In addition, a high intensity interval training workout will also be offered. If interested in attending e-mail kickingjeans@gmail.com to inquire for more information. Dojo Sante will be having a launch party to thank Dojo Sante’s

loyal clientele as well as an open house for potential new Dojo Sante family member, Date, to be announced. For more information on Dojo Sante visit www.mbsdojosante.com.

University of Massachusetts-Lowell (UMass-Lowell) who recently participated in a gala event held as part of the university’s Celebration of Philanthropy. The first-ever Legacy of Giving luncheon at the UMass-Lowell Inn & Conference Center brought together the generous donors who have established scholarship funds at the university and the students who receive help through those funds. Graduate student Melissa Varszegi is among more than 440 students this year being assisted by one of the more than 220 endowed scholarships at the university. Students at UMass-Lowell were awarded nearly $825,000 through endowed scholarships during the last academic year. The event gave students the opportunity to a say personal thank-

you to donors and the benefactors had a chance to meet those who personally benefit from their generosity. Many of the donors are alumni of the university, who remember how important a helping hand is during college years; others are faculty and staff who work on campus and every day see the difference a UMass-Lowell education makes to students.
