submitted by Jim Tomaswick

Britt Doyle hits the lay-up

It has been many seasons since an Alvirne Boys team has defeated Bishop Guertin on the basketball court and this past Friday the Broncos took the first step in changing this trend in front of a capacity crowd at the Steckevicz Gymnasium knocking off the defending NH State Champions 79 – 71. The teams ended the first quarter knotted at 15 and BG taking a three point advantage into the locker room at half time. Tyler Livingston scored 10 of his team high 20 points in the first half for the Broncos. BG maintained their lead and the

momentum at the end of the third quarter up 51- 47. The fourth quarter

belonged to the Broncos who scored 32 points in the quarter lead by Sean Dunn who had 11 of his 19 points in the quarter including going 8 for 8 from the free throw line. Midway through the fourth quarter BG was called for a foul in the backcourt that sent Dunn to the line and then BG was hit with a technical foul giving Dunn two additional free throws and he did not disappoint hitting all four to bring Alvirne within a point midway through the quarter. On the next possession Tony Beaulieu (19 points, nine rebounds) hit Jimmy Tomaswick (10 points, eight rebounds) for an up and under that gave the Broncos the lead for good. ”This game was all about playing as a team and tonight the bench stepped up big and carried the team,” said Sean Dunn after the game. On Tuesday Alvirne hosted the Blue Hawks of Exeter. Alvirne was able to jump out to a six point lead at the end of the first quarter lead offensively by Tony Beaulieu who scored seven of his 17 points in the game. Exeter ended the half on an 8 -0 run and cut the Alvirne advantage to three 21-18. Alvirne stepped up their defense early on in the third quarter when Tony Beaulieu stole the ball and slammed it home giving Alvirne the momentum. Sean Dunn (18 points) and Tyler Livingston (12 points) played well offensively while Kevin Pierre

One of Alvirne’s upcoming stars is a freshman Patrick DeVito

wearing the jersey #9. His solid play has proven to be a tremendous asset for the team’s 5-0 start this year.

The Alvirne ice hockey team traveled to Laconia to face Belmont- Gilford and brought home the win. Senior Captain Ryan Bellerose and Senior Phil Sweeney had a goal and an assist in the win. Cam Brock also earned an assist for the Broncos, while Senior Brian Carpentier made 30 saves between the pipes. Sophomore Christian Gamst scored the game-winning goal with 18 seconds remaining as the Broncos upped their record to 5-0. The next game is scheduled on January 14 at 4:40 p.m. at Skate 3

in Tyngsborough, MA, where the Broncos will face Moultonborough Academy and Interlakes High School.
