Cougars Get a Grip on Grizzlies in Quad Match
victories over G-town and Bow. The lone loss on the day was at the hands of the green and gold Cardinals of BG.
In early morning action, while BG was going up against Goffstown, the Cougars were on the other side of half court wrestling against the Falcons of Bow. Campbell picked up a decisive divisional win as they defeated Bow in the team score competition by a score of 48-22. Leading the way on the mats for the Cougars were Connor Perry, Conor Douglas, Jacob Parzych and Jared Saunders. The ‘Con(n)or Connection’ picked up wins as each pinned their opponent. Perry took care of Nikos Kourtas with a first period pin while Douglas pinned Mitchell Boyd at 2:27 of his match. Parzych echoed Douglas’s efforts with a 2:25 pin of his opponent with Saunders using only 43 seconds of his match to record a pin win against Bailey Ulrich. Next on the docket for Campbell was a match against
Cougar Keegan Tanguay picked up a crucial win against Kyle Leblanc (GOF) at 1:58 of the first period
by Marc Ayotte The Campbell wrestlers were involved in a quad meet this past
Saturday, January 7, as they hosted Bishop Guertin, Goffstown and Bow in the Cougar Den. With excellent meet-long performances by Jared Saunders, Connor Perry and Conor Douglas, The Cougars improved to 7-3 on the season, 5-1 in divisional meets, with
who coach Gannon called a very solid Goffstown squad. Once again, Connor Perry (two on the day) and Jared Saunders picked up key individual wins. But it was the contribution from Keegan Tanguay and Jack Tremblay that paved the way to victory over the gritty Grizzlies. In the 138-weight class, Tanguay held a slight 2-0 lead before pinning his opponent, Kyle
Leblanc, with only two ticks left on the first period clock. Cougar Coach Gannon was pleased, saying “first year wrestler Keegan Tanguay had a stunning win against Goffstown”. However, it was Tremblay who brought exultation from the Cougar bench and gave his coach reason to raise his arm in celebration. According to Gannon; “the match of the day came from freshman Jack Tremblay.” Tremblay’s timely pin of Nicholas Flanders, 31 seconds into the second period assured victory for the Cougars (36-31) over the visiting Grizzlies.

In the final match of the day, the Cougars were pitted against powerhouse Bishop Guertin. Coach Paul Rousseau’s team continued their winning ways as they steamrolled over the Cougars. Two bright spots for Campbell against the Cardinals were Conor Douglas and Jared Saunders. After leading 2-0 at the end of the first period, Douglas needed only 48 more seconds to clip his Cardinal opponent, as the Cougar sophomore chalked up his third win of the day (including one forfeit), with a win by fall over Nelson Millett. Jared Saunders continued his fine day by completing the trifecta. Wrestling in his third match of the day, Saunders defeated Donny Adie with a fall/ pin with just 39 seconds remaining in the first period. Saunders was the only Cougar wrestler to compete in all three matches and emerge victorious in each one.

AHS Gymnasts Underway
by Sue LaRoche The Alvirne gymnastic team has doubled in size this season to four girls competing. Unfortunatly, they still must compete as independents since a minimum number of five gymnasts is required for a team. Coach Lisa Robuccio returns to the helm this year coaching captain Hailey Boulia, juniors Shelby King and Kayla Page, and sophomore Jessica Wambsganss. The gymnasts will compete in 8 meets this season and in the NH State meet which will take place on February 19. With a qualifying finish, a gymnast could move onto the New England meet. The girls have competed in two meets so far. On December 20, their first
meet was held at Pinkerton Academy in Derry. King scored 7.50 on vault, 5.20 on bars and 6.40 on floor. Page turned in a 7.70 on vault, 5.80 on beam and 6.60 on floor and Wambsganss scored 6.5 on vault, 5.0 on bars, 7.0 on beam and 6.60 on floor. Boulia did not compete due to an injury. On January 5, the girls traveled to Nashua North to compete. Kingsley scored a 7.80 on vault, 5.20 on bars and 6.45 on floor. Page tallied an 8.0 on vault, 5.4 on beam and 7.20 on floor. Wambsganss scored 7.75 on vault, 5.50 on bars, 5.80 on beam and 6.90 on floor. Boulia added a 5.30 on bars and 6.30 on beam. The next meet for the girls will be on January 19 at 7 pm at Nashua North.
