Ian Livingstone (BA ‘94) has recently joined the elite ranks of the British music industry with his Ivor Novello Award in the ‘Best Original Video Game Score’ category for his work on Napoleon: Total War. Since graduating Ian has developed a successful career as a composer for film, television and advertising and worked alongside Richard Beddow and Richard Birdsall in the creation of the award-winning soundtrack.


Guro Birgitte Stene (BSc ’99) completed her MSc Physiotherapy at Manchester Metropolitan University. She met her husband, Per S Knardal (BA ’01) at the University and they returned to Norway after completing their degrees. She has worked as a physiotherapist but her career has mainly focused in research. She is now doing a PhD in Medicine at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. She is married with two young children.


Mark A Wallace (BEng ’95) Mark married Emma in snowy Hampshire on 18th December 2009, before Mark started a new job at KBR in Leatherhead. In May they had a bonny baby boy, Thomas, weighing 4.2kgs and with Dad’s sideburns!


The family then relocated in early August 2011 to Haugesund in Norway where Mark is working as Control Systems and Instrumentation Engineer for KBR and Statoil at the Kårstø Plant, Europe’s biggest export port for natural gas liquids (NGL) and the third largest in the world. The family are looking forward to the exciting adventures ahead with Glaciers, Elk, Herring and dark cold winters!


Paul Kilbride (BSc ’99) became engaged to Joanna Cocking (BSc ’99) after proposing on 1 January 2011 in New York.

Imtiaz Ali (MBA ’02) is Director of his own textile engineering business, DYENEX, based in Pakistan.


Keith Chaplin-Mabutt (BA ’00) has experienced success with his company, CVSeeMe Limited (that owns the graduate recruitment website, CVSeeMe.co.uk), after winning ‘Best Technical Innovation’ at the OnRec Awards. In June 2011 they were voted as one of the ‘Best Job Boards’ in the country by the Recruitment Industry Awards. Tom Dawson (BSc ’08) and Jordan Russell (BA ‘04) married 14 May 2011 in Machynlleth, Wales. They both row for Agecroft Rowing club at Salford Quays and have been crew members of the winning Salford Alumni mixed 8+ at the Two Cities Boat race for the last 2 years (2010 and 2011). Tom won the Britannia Challenge Cup at the world famous Henley Royal regatta in 2009 and Jordan recently medalled at the National Rowing Championships of Great Britain. Tom is a physiotherapist and Jordan manages the Teacher Recruitment Marketing campaign at the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA). They live in Manchester.


Dave Fortune (BA ’03) currently works as a Record Label Manager for My First Moth Records.


Michele Hawkes (BA ’01) has been working in marketing and advertising since graduating. She recently located to New York to work for an international marketing consultancy.


Dave Howarth (MA ’10) is now Assistant Professor at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi teaching Graphic Design to BA students.


Lorraine Hughes (HND ’03) completed her post graduate in HACCP in 2009. She is relocating back to Leeds from Dubai where she worked as the Technical Manager at Emirates Flight Catering.


Ash Mahmud (BEng ’01) is the Head of CRM for Groupon.

John McDonald (BSc ’10) left Salford with a BSc (Hons) in Business and Management Studies with Law, entering a severely challenged jobs market, made even more challenging through being an experienced and ‘mature’ graduate, as opposed to young and inexperienced. After a brief spell with the ONS, he has now secured a consultancy role of Business Process Analyst with BusinessPort Ltd (www.businessport.net/) in Aberdeen, Scotland and will shortly depart the UK for Abuja, Nigeria, to assist with the rollout of BusinessPorts ‘Agility’ Business Management System for a global energy client.


Peter Murray (BSc ’01) recently rebranded and re-launched his graphic/web design company which went limited in 2011. www.everylastpixel.co.uk


Mike Potts (Pg Dip ’02) an alumnus from the Acoustics and Noise Control. After a period with Manchester City Council (Environmental Health Dept), Atkins and Royal Haskoning, Mike set up as a freelance acoustic consultant in September 2010 under the name Echo Acoustics Ltd (www.echo-acoustics.co.uk). He is now married with 2 kids and a mad Springer Spaniel puppy.


Hannah Swarbrick-Done (BA ’11) graduated from BA Design Futures in July 2011. She is now working as an Account Manager for Acquire, a business development consultancy.
