The Carpinteria Valley has held a special place in the hearts of its residents from the time the Native Americans lived here, through the Spanish period of the 1700s, the Anglo American period of the 1880s and up to now.
One only needs to walk the Bluffs Preserve, hike the foothills or take the trolley around town to experience why we love this patch of earth that some are lucky to call home.
To visitors of the valley, there is an area of Carpinteria that is not so well known. City planners call it Sub-area 3, but to local residents it is known by a number of names: El Carro, Santa Monica, Vallecito, Bailard or others.
Located north of U.S. Highway 101, south of Foothill Road, between Cravens Lane to just east of Carpinteria Creek, is home to at least half the city population—a patchwork of residential development built in fits and starts over the last 60 years. The area is predominately composed of many

TOP, Concha Loma is one of Carpinteria’s most desirable neighborhoods. CENTER AND BELOW, Bungalow style homes are scattered throughout downtown. Some have the more ornate look of gingerbread while others have the clean lines of a craftsman.
