In response to bombastic technological breakthroughs and high speed life, the practical art of quilting has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity over the last decade. Now the once hand stitched works are getting fi nished mostly by machine. Ranell Hansen is a master craftswoman who takes quilting to a more adventurous dimension as a quilt artist. Her fi ne tuned canvases are intricate works of art soothing to the touch and amazing to the eye.

Canyon is Carpinteria’s gateway into the front-country of the Santa Ynez Mountains and the backcountry of the Los Padres National Forest. From the Carpinteria Valley one can see the upper reaches of the Romero Trail, a jagged line of compacted sandstone gradually ascending westward on a steep mountain face toward the coast before zigzagging back to the north.
