Two local women know each other through business connections and develop a friendship based on a shared passion for hunting beach treasures—mainly beach glass. Describing the hunt as an act of meditation and therapy, they have spent hundreds of hours scouring local beaches to find unique colors, shapes, and sizes of sea-worn glass. Their collections boast pounds and pounds of beach glass and other sea treasures.

Looks are deceiving, particularly in the case of orchids. The fragile-looking blossoms are surprisingly resilient. In decades old, indestructible glass and metal greenhouses, at Westerlay, countless orchids are coaxed into bloom by the Overgaag family. Their family tree in the flower-growing business branches out many generations.

in the beach neighborhood sit two bungalows devotedly and proudly restored to their architectural splendor. The Hirsch family bought the two previously dilapidated dwellings and with the help of a cast of craftsmen brought them back to their glory.
