To recognize a stroke, think F.A.S.T. Look for any of these signs:


Face: One side of face is numb or droops


Arms: One arm is numb and difficult to raise above head Speech: Slurred or unclear speech


Time: If these signs are present, call 911 or get to the hospital fast


Strokes happen at an alarming rate. For David Powdrell, the statistic hit home. David’s stroke came on with no early warning signs. However, he and his wife, Valerie, recognized the symptoms, and sought immediate treatment at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
