Lloyd Larson to Introduce His 2012
Christmas Cantata, Be
hol d the Sta r!
On Tuesday evening, July 17th, during our Florida Fellowship's 2012 Summer Music Workshop, our friend, Lloyd Larson, from Lorenz Publishing, will introduce to us his 2012 Christmas Cantata, Behold the Star! Everyone attending the workshop will receive a complimentary copy of Behold the Star! and we will have the opportunity to sing through Lloyd's Cantata with him directing us. He will also be leading a handbell reading packet of Lorenz Handbell music on Tuesday afternoon and an addi- tional choral reading packet on Tuesday evening after we read through his Christmas Cantata. Those of you that know Lloyd know that he is a gifted composer and arranger. He is also a de- voted church music director and shares the "ups and downs" that those of us in music ministry lead- ership experience. Our hope is that the opportu- nity to experience and learn from Lloyd will be yet another reason for you to mark your calendars for July 15th - 20th, 2012, and join us!
For over 25 years, Lloyd Larson has been an active com- poser and arranger for several major publishing compa- nies of church and school music. His music compositions and arrangements number well over 1,000 published works – including choral anthems, numerous extended Christmas and Easter works, keyboard collections, vocal solo and duet collections, instrumental solo and ensemble publications, orchestrations, and handbell settings. It is his work in the local church, though, which continues to be the catalyst for much of his writing. He is an active partici- pant in his own local church where he currently directs the adult choir in addition to regularly being involved in wor- ship planning and leadership. He has been involved in church music ministry for over 35 years, serving churches in Indiana, Ohio and Minnesota.
A Letter to the Youth Hello Campers!
We are so excited to have all of you returning to FUMMWA for this coming year and to all of our newcomers, welcome! With this being my 11th year at FUMMWA, I have been a part of every aspect from being a camper, on Youth Team, taught classes and served as a Dean last year. I am excited to be serving as one of the Youth Deans again this year along with Stephany Bryant, Bryan Browning, and Tree Hazard. We all have been hard at work to make sure that this year is the best year at camp ever!
This year, camp will be held July 15-20th at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL. Anyone in middle or high school is welcome to attend the Youth confer- ence. We are also beginning a new College age group which will incorpo- rate aspects of the Youth conference, but also offers different activities spe- cific to the College age participants. As always, Youth Team will be here to staff camp for the week and chaper- one all of our campers. Middle school chaperones are always welcome to attend camp with us.
Some of the afternoon classes that will be offered this year include Guitar, Faith Sharing, Vespers Planning, Arts and Crafts, and Sign Language. All classes are being taught by our amazing Youth Team, Deans, and Clinicians, and will offer time to both learn and grow through fellowship with one another. This week is sure to be filled with music, fun, laughter, and most importantly, time to become closer to God. I look forward to seeing all of you again this year, and for those of you returning to camp—take on the challenge to bring a friend! What better way to share God’s love with others than to bring them to FUMMWA with you!
Sincerely, Michele Ladas
