optimized and loads quickly otherwise users will get bored and leave. Don’t forget to label all images on the site using alt tags.

15. Stats and analytics

I feel that every site should have some form of tracking, and Google Analytics is my personal favourite. It’s free and will tell you a whole host of different information from how many users you’ve had, to how long they spend on your site and what page they leave from. Very useful!

16. Sitemaps

Great for website users and also your search engine rankings. Speak to your design agency and get them added to your site.

17. Update your content

Website content should be regularly refreshed and added to. This is vital for search engine rankings and good for repeat visitors. Allocate time regularly to refresh the content.

18. Social Media links

It’s important to have Social Media to drive traffic to your website, but it’s also important to add links to those pages on your main website. I would personally have them on your contact page and on the website footer of 22

every page. 19. About us

You don’t need to write a full biography about leaving school, learning your trade to the modern day but adding a bit about

your company and its values really helps. Think about the main reasons why your business exists and the difference you make to your clients.

20. Offers/calls to action

Ensure you have some strong offers on your site and easy ways for potential customers to use these offers. This is especially important for e-commerce websites to stand out against the competition. Keep offers current and refresh regularly. Use response codes to track the take up of each offer.

21. News feeds/blogs

These are great ways to keep your website up to date and to let customers know what you’re doing. Blog about upcoming exhibitions you’re attending, new offers you have, trends in your industry and other informative items your customers will want to hear about.

22. Add links

To enhance the user’s experience add links to other useful sites. You may be accredited by your trade association and links to their site will add credibility to your site.

23. Inbound links If done correctly, good inbound links to your site will boost website rankings. Talk to your web agency who will advise on the best way for you to build links.

24. Get found

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a method to help you get your site up the rankings in the main search engines where hundreds of millions of people will search for your industry on a daily basis, so SEO could be a viable option to increase your website traffic and trade. Talk to your web agency.

25. Test

Test your site vigorously before going live, especially if there are interactive features you want users to participate in. Get feedback and act on it before you publish the site.
