importantly, inspire those around us to play their part in the success of the business. If our company is to enjoy success we need to know just what that success looks like. The inspiring vision is exactly that- what does success look like for our business in the future.

Most corporations and large businesses have vision statements, but they are written by consultants or marketing professionals who far too often use industry clichés and expressions that are more suited to the annual report than as a meaningful blue print for business development.

Our vision statement, on the other hand, will be the real thing and here’s how to do it: take a blank sheet of paper and describe how your business looks in a fixed period of time - say 5 or 10 years from today. Think about the following: How is your business doing? Where is it based? Who works there? What are their roles? What is the organisational structure? Who are your customers? What do they buy from you? How do the numbers look? What reputation has the business earnt?

This all needs to be documented into at least a full-page description of the company that you want to build. Once we have our real vision we have something to aim for. All of the staff will now have a clear idea on what direction the business is taking and as we will see later on, they will all play their part towards achieving the vision.

You should share your vision with every boost jan / feb 12 13
