Pete Linskey “loved the outdoor life”. Tributes paid to adventurous Pete M

embers of Abbots Langley Scouts joined several hundred people from the

community for the funeral of a popular local figure who died suddenly. Fifty-two-year-old Pete Linskey, who was

heavily involved in the local Scouting movement throughout his life, suffered a haemorrhage while on a bike ride in nearby Kings Langley in November. Described by his partner Pauline Styles as a

man who ―loved the outdoor life‖, Pete was in training for a climbing trip that the couple were planning to undertake in Scotland in February. Speaking to My Abbots News in the weeks

following the funeral, Pauline said: ―Pete was always determined to enjoy life and never let anything hold him back. ―Having been a Scout himself as a youngster

he remained involved with the movement throughout his life, taking on the role of leader of

the Venture group and taking groups of young Scouts on climbing trips to Ben Nevis and Snowdon. ―The mundanity of work always came second to

Pete. Enjoying life came first. He certainly wasn‘t your normal ‗nine to five‘ guy.‖ Pete was such a lover of the great outdoors

that he set up his own business, Out of Town Action Sports, based at Phasels Wood and Rickmansworth Aquadrome, delivering outdoor education and activities for local youngsters. ―If he could help others achieve he felt like he‘d

done a good day‘s work,‖ said Pauline. Around 200 people filled St Saviour‘s Church

in the village on Tuesday, November 22, to pay tribute to Pete, including representatives from every Scout unit in the district. Pauline commented: ―He touched so many

people‘s lives. Everybody knew Pete.‖ by Kelly Lavender
