Adapted Swim
Lessons: These swim lessons will be adapted to participant’s individual needs and goals. Participants ages 4 and up will be evaluated on a per session basis to accommodate special needs. These swim lessons are taught on low instructor to participant ratio working on hand eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills, as well as water orientation and strokes. Please be advised that space is limited. All disabilities are welcome. Please contact the Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator at 734-394-5367 if you have any more questions.
Once again, Camp A.B.L.E. will be offered for a full 8 weeks, beginning Monday, June 18, and ending Friday, August 10. Camp runs 8:30am until 4:30pm. daily. For those of you who are new to the program, Camp A.B.L.E. is a summer camp for children ages 8-14 with disabilities. For over thirteen summers, this camp has been extremely successful and has set the precedent for Therapeutic Recreation camps to be modeled after throughout Western Wayne County. Once again, Camp will be held at the Cherry Hill School, located on the northwest corner of Cherry Hill and Ridge roads. Low staff to participant ratios are maintained to ensure that each participant is safe and receives the attention he or she needs. So please be advised that space is limited. Participants take part in a variety of activities throughout the day, interacting with their peers, enhancing social skills, gross and fine motor skills, and gaining independence. Camp A.B.L.E. runs Monday thru Friday, consists of three field trips per week (normally Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), and two days of specially planned activities at the camp site and swimming at the Summit Aquatic Center (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Participants may be registered by the day for camp. Participants are welcome to attend as often as desired. For further information, please contact Emily Laskie at 734-394-5367 or via email at

We are proud to announce that are able to offer scholarships through The Marion and Jerry Rozum Family Fund. The Marion and Jerry Rozum Family Fund was established to organize support from individuals and business owners within the community. Realizing that summer camps can make a difference for families with special needs, Marion Rozum established this Donor Advised Fund at the Canton Community Foundation for disabled children or those with life threatening illnesses. Support is accepted through either a business sponsorship or with an individual donation. All contributions go directly to providing these challenged individuals with a memorable, fun, and safe summer experience and are accepted year-round. Scholarship application forms are available at
www.cantonfun.org or by visiting the Summit on the Park.
If you or someone you know would like to donate to The Marion and Jerry Rozum Family Fund, which supports sending special needs children to Camp A.B.L.E. at no cost, can contact Joan Noricks at The Canton Community Foundation at 734/495-1200. No sponsorship or donation would be considered too small or unappreciated. All contributions receive an added tax credit on Michigan State Tax forms.

Inclusive Recreation Services
Canton Leisure Services Department is committed to an inclusive approach to recreation, which allows for individuals with challenges to participate as fully as possible, while providing reasonable accommodations. The accommodations include individualized techniques and resources that enhance program partici- pation without fundamentally altering a program. Inclusion allows individuals to choose from the vast array of programs offered by Canton Leisure Services. Participants must be able to accomplish personal skills, ie., they must be able to feed, toilet and clothe themselves.
