alpine splendour: Verbier is set for another all-star festival


European summit Martha Argerich heads to Verbier; while Ole Bull is celebrated in Bergen


VERBIER FESTIVAL At Verbier, whether you’re in the newly-built Salle des Combins or the intimate Village Church, it doesn’t matter whether the lights are high or low; the stars are shining. It’s what Verbier does. Where else on a single night sharing a stage would you fi nd a chamber line-up including Joshua Bell, Gidon Kremer and Anne-Sophie Mutter on violins, Yuri Bashmet holding the viola fort, and Gautier Capuçon and Mischa Maisky occupying the cello stands – with Martha Argerich and Evgeny Kissin obliging at the piano?
