ST MARGARET’S ARTISTS, CHEFS AND CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNERS ALL MAKE IT TO THE FINALS

St Margaret’s School, Exeter, celebrated the end of term with three notable successes.

First, national success! Julia Whiting has just been short listed for the Saatchi Schools Award in Art 2011, an international award. She competed against 18,000 other entrants, all budding artists aged 18 or younger, anywhere in the world. Julia’s entry is being displayed in the Saatchi Gallery in January along with the other twenty shortlisted entries.

The winner will be

announced at a Dinner in January. Young ‘Master Chefs’ of the future will put their culinary skills to the test as they compete in the Devon County final of the hard-fought Rotary Young Chef 2011 competition.

Exeter in the Rotary Young Chef of 2011 Final in Torquay following their triumph at the district Final - an amazing achievement. They are now spending some time working with professionals from Exeter College to perfect their dishes for the Devon Final.

Zoe balances a busy life. She is a talented singer (in St Margaret’s well-known Chapel Choir) and is keen on the great out-doors (she is taking her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and will also be competing in Ten Tors).

As if that Readers

may remember that Zoe Sing, a St Margaret’s pupil, was the national runner-up in this competition last year. This year, two girls from St Margaret’s, Zoe Sing joined by Ruth Squires, will represent

on Tuesdays and Plymouth on Wednesdays. Children can begin from as young as three years old. The new RAD work is really fun to do and is a relevant way for today’s children to learn and enjoy Dance.

It is not just for girls, as it is suitable for boys too.

Many of Helen’s pupils enter the Royal Academy of Dance Examinations, maintaining an excellent 100 per cent pass rate. Two pupils she teaches in Plymouth are also benefiting from receiving three years of regular classes as Royal Ballet School Associates. Only a few places are available on these schemes each year, so it is a very special achievement to be selected.

Dance Along on Tuesday mornings for adults with learning difficulties continues to be popular. In these classes, the participants do warm ups, conditioning exercises and learn different styles of dance all at an appropriate pace and level.

were not enough, Zoe has also just gained some promising grades in GCSE Science Modules! Ruth Squires leads a similarly busy life. Ruth is also going to represent Exeter and District in the county finals of the Cross Country running. If she gets through this round, she will then go on through to represent Devon and then onto the regional finals. We wish them very good luck in their quests for success.

It is an article of faith at St Margaret’s that each

individual child has immense potential – and all children are different. Here, we are able to bring out innate ability, wherever it may lie. Academically, of course, any good independent school should achieve results such as ours. We are immensely proud of the students’ successes this year. Their exam results always represent real individual triumphs, with students gaining places at top universities and even, sometimes, showing typical St Margaret’s initiative and starting their own businesses! St Margaret’s Nursery offers far more than Nursery care. As part of a school, it offers a quality early education.

children a great advantage right at the beginning of their school lives. Boys have been welcome to join our Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep for the last two years. The arrival of boys has developed further areas where pupils can develop their talents and their confidence - and shine. We have an outstanding reputation at St Margaret’s for the Creative Arts.

Countless students over the years have discovered potential

of which they were unaware when they first visited us. Our school life is particularly rich and busy, with Art, Music and Drama flourishing - whether you are 4 years old or 14, you will get involved here. We have an enviable outdoor activities

programme: one of the best Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes in Devon – the Royal office at Windsor has even filmed some of our students: and, there is our successful Ten Tors programme, our varied and flexible sports provision with our energetic, young PE Department and – distinctively – an all girl CCF. here!

Adventures start

St Margaret's students' 'value-added' continues to amaze us all, with many students gaining not just one, but two grades above predictions. At the same time, the older years are very involved with school life, taking the lead and enjoying responsibility.

St Margaret’s

has a strong family and community spirit. Service to others is important and at the heart of our Christian foundation. Each individual enjoys a rounded, rich experience which lays the foundations for happy, successful lives.

The ‘happy’ is very important:

we are well known throughout Devon for the high quality of our pastoral care which is a crucial and fundamental aspect of St Margaret’s. Nurturing confidence is our especial skill: we foster the idea that you can do anything if you try.

Making friends comes naturally here and

your friends at St Margaret’s, as we know from our Alumnae, are friends for life.
