Town &

Country - News From Levington

A new year! Having got through Christmas and the New Year festivities 2012 now stretches ahead with new hopes, opportunities and challenges.

December in the village was a mix- ture of good things as well as sad- ness. The time of 'Advent' made us look forward to Christmas. To a packed village hall, Clive and Christine Payne, dressed in Victorian costume, entertained us with their 'Experience a Victorian Christmas' lec- ture. Similarly, with a capacity audi- ence, Derek Girling and David Pryke entertained the village with their annual Levington Film Show showing events, happenings of the past year alongside some superb local wildlife images all taken around Levington, the river and Creek areas. But very sadly Max Ralph, a well-known village resident died on Saturday 3rd December. He worked tirelessly for the village over so many years from at one time chairing the Parish Council, to adding his energies to the many village organisations as Treasurer or Auditor and not least in his role as Levington Flower Show Chairman. It was only in 2010 he took on the task of organising the complete replace- ment of all the Show silver trophies.

Max had been heavily involved with the Nacton Cricket Club for years and was also a member of the Royal British Legion (Trimley Branch). He brought the RBL Standard to all Levington's Remembrance Day Services. Max will be greatly missed for all he was and did in this Parish.

Coming up in January - Luncheon Club members will enjoy a meal on 10th January. On the 11th the Women's Institute will be holding their annual party evening. The Parish Council meeting is on the 18th at 7.15pm. Gardening Club on Wednesday 25th January at 7.30pm in the Village Hall is expecting Chris Reeve on the topic of 'A Gardener's Year at Helmingham Hall'. Helmingham is best known for its fine garden, which is open on a regular basis. It is a semi-formal mixed gar- den with extensive borders, a rose garden, a knot garden, a parterre and an orchard. So do come along if you can to hear about gardening in this special corner of Suffolk. £3.00 on the door and visitors from our sur- rounding area are always very wel- come to attend.

So as we start another year here in this special village of Levington, the rhythm of village life will go on. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!
