(Multiple Spark Discharge) Ignition systems
HIGH PERFORMANCE IGNITION MSD ignitions systems are multiple sparking, capacitive discharge systems. Unlike standard ignition units which only spark once, MSD ignitions spark multiple times through 20 degree of crankshaft rotation up to 3,000RPM. The multiple sparks ensure complete combustion. After 3,000RPM there is not enough time for the plug to fire more than once so there is only a single spark but this is always a full 45,000 volt spark thanks to the capacitive discharge technology. The Capacitive discharge technology ensures the units deliver this very high voltage at any RPM unlike standard ignition units which have a lower voltage delivery (20,000-30,000 volts) and severe voltage reduction at higher RPM. The MSD units deliver the high voltage constantly due to a special transformer in the units which steps up the voltage from the battery and stores it in a large capacitor until the ignition is triggered. The 6 series ignitions are the most popular capacitive discharge systems in the world. Suitable for use with 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engines with 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. They will accept trigger inputs from breaker points, amplifiers and magnetic pickups. MSD ignition units have the following benefits over a standard ignition: Quick starts, increased power, smooth idle, reduced spark plug fouling and crisp throttle response. MSD 6A IGNITION - 6201 6A Ignition Replaces 6200. The base model multiple sparking, CD ignition The new design 6A ignition will be available 17th January 2011, incorporating a lower profile housing and a new sealed/locked connector. MSD 6T IGNITION- 6400 6T Ignition the 6400 unit is the same model as the 6200 but is built to withstand severe jolts and vibrations. The capacitor and transformer have additional bracing and all of the internal circuits and components receive a thick coating of humi-seal to add further vibration protection. Comes with vibration mounts. MSD 6AL IGNITION - 6425 6AL Ignition Replaces 6420. The new design
6AL..Same as 6A but with rev limiter incorporated. The rev limiter is now on top of the housing with soft touch rotary dials which can set the limit in 100RPM increments. MSD 6AL-2 IGNITION - 6421 6AL-2. The 6421 incorporates two rev limiters; one for high end over rev protection and another you can activate off a clutch or transbrake to set a launch limit. This feature will help your car off the starting line. Adjustments are made via four rotary dials for 100 rpm increment control. MSD 6AL-2 PROGRAMMABLE IGNITION - 6530 Programmable, 6AL-2. Same model as the 6AL-2 but is set up and programmed by a PC. The Programmable 6AL-2 lets you lock out the distributor, program a timing curve and boost timing curve, set a 2-Step Rev Limiter, and a retard.

COILS MSD Ignition offers a variety of performance coils designed for a number of applications. MSD Blaster coils are suitable to upgrade your standard coil or complement the performance of your MSD 6 series ignition. MSD coils have a lower resistance and improved turns ratio, producing a more powerful spark and improved performance. BLASTER - 8200 Blaster coil, chrome case. High voltage output, comes with 0.8 ohm ballast resister, terminal and boot, for use with points, electronic or MSD ignitions. With a standard points ignition a ballast resistor must be placed in-line with the positive terminal of the coil. BLASTER 2 - 8202
OPERATING SPECIFICATIONS SPARK ENERGY: 135-145 mJ PER SPARK PRIMARY VOLTAGE: 520-240 VOLTS SECONDARY VOLTAGE: 45,000 VOLTS SPARK SERIES DURATION: 20 DEG CRANK ROTATION RPM RANGE: 0-15,000 RPM WITH 14.4 VOLTS VOLTAGE REQUIRED: 12-15 VOLTS, 7 VOLT START CURRENT DRAW: 0.7 AMP PER 1,000 RPM WEIGHT & SIZE: 1.7LBS, 8”L x 4”W, x 2.25”H
Blaster coil, red case. High voltage output for use with MSD Ignitions. BLASTER - 8203
Blaster coil, red case. Same spec as 8200, but with red case. BLASTER HIGH VIBRATION - 8222 Blaster coil, black case. High voltage output, for high vibration applications. Comes with a sturdy metal case and is potted in epoxy. This protects the coils internal components from high and low frequency vibrations. BLASTER SS - 8207 The efficient E-core windings are designed to produce high amounts of current without sacrificing the voltage
output. The secondary windings are wound on a segmented bobbin which reduces the chance of voltage breakdown between the primary and secondary windings. For more protection, these windings are encased in a polyurethane compound for protection against vibration. The Blaster SS features brass terminals and a sturdy housing. It is supplied with a boot, terminal and vibration mounts. A great addition to CD Ignitions and some standard applications. BLASTER HVC II - 8253 The Blaster HVC coil utilizes an iron U-Core design with a segmented bobbin for improved voltage distribution. The bobbin is moulded from a special Dupont Rynite material and wound specifically to produce the most current possible with incredible voltage and lightning quick rise
time. The brass primary terminals are spaced far apart and the secondary tower is well protected for increased spark isolation. The housing is completely potted with an epoxy compound for vibration resistance and installs with sturdy vibration mounts.
