Community Presentation by local Architect The Cedar Falls


Historic Preservation


Commission has announced that it will host two free public presentations by local architect and commission member Daryl Andersen on Thursday, January 19 and Thursday, January 26. Both events will take place from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the Cedar Falls Community Center, 6th and Main Street, Cedar Falls. Andersen will show photos of Cedar Falls homes and discuss their architectural features and styles. Andersen’s January


begin with the community’s oldest homes and will wind up with Victorian era homes, depending on the amount of audience-speaker interaction. The January 26th presentation will begin where the first presentation leaves off and will continue at least through homes built in the 1940s. Mr. Andersen will also include the architecture of local places of worship in his presentation. Cynthia Sweet, chair of the Cedar Falls Historic Preservation Commission, commented “By systematically inventorying and identifying architecturally significant properties in Cedar Falls, Daryl Andersen has created a very important resource for our Commission and the entire community. On top of that, he has generously given of his time and expertise to put the information into a format which he can present to the community. With the information and the photographic examples that Daryl has compiled to share with us, all property owners will be better equipped to identify the style, date, and significant features of their property.” The public


January 19 and 26th from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the Cedar Falls Community Center. The events are free and open to the public.


Cedar Falls Ice Skating!


Time to get those skates out and enjoy another season of outdoor ice skating in Cedar Falls. Weather permitting, Gateway Park boasts a 90’ x 190’ ice rink. It is located on the north side of the Cedar River next to the Main Street Bridge. The facility is lighted allowing for evening skating, a shelter has been partially enclosed to serve as a place to get out of the wind and a heated restroom is also available for your use.

Family Fishing Day In conjunction with Family Ice Fishing Day from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm,


on Saturday January 7, 2012 (weather permitting), the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will be stocking catchable size trout into the north lake at Prairie Lakes Park. Bring your ice fishing pole with a 2 to 4 pound line, ice auger & ice scoop, bucket to sit on,


jigs, warm clothes, boots and gloves. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a licensed (fishing license + trout stamp) adult.
