Earth Day. Carlson Hotels, Americas supported Earth Day with a wide variety of environmental activities such as cleaning up local parks, educating staff on the importance of recycling, and providing free mass transit passes for employees.
Supplier Code of Conduct. Carlson Hotels, Americas is committed to ensuring the highest ethical standards in conducting our business and we expect our suppliers to do the same.
As a supporting member of the United Nations Global Compact, Carlson Hotels, Americas believes in, and is committed to, advancing the Global Compact’s core values in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. These principles are the foundation for Carlson Hotels, Americas Supplier Code of Conduct which outlines the minimum standards that suppliers to our hotels are expected to achieve.
In addition to these standards, suppliers are expected to abide by all applicable laws, codes and regulations in the countries in which they operate.
MAY
eCycling Program. Improper disposal of electronic waste (eWaste) is a mounting environmental problem. Carlson Hotels, Americas, in partnership with Keystone Computer Solutions, produced an easy-to-use eCycling Program for use by all hotels for the safe disposal of eWaste. This program works to minimize risk and provide an easy solution for the removal of eWaste by picking up, processing, and safely recycling eWaste of any sort.
Responsible Business Handbook. This important handbook provides the information and steps needed for creating and growing Responsible Business programs within each of our hotel locations. Hotel staff can follow the straightforward action steps outlined in the handbook to get them started on their way to making a difference.
JUNE
Living and Leading Responsible Business. Carlson Hotels, Americas launched a brand new suite of Responsible Business training. The training has two components. Living Responsible Business, mandatory training for all staff members, aims to inspire employees to make a difference both at home and at work, and provides information and practical tips on how to do that. The Program is 3.5 hours long. Leading Responsible Business is 1.5 hours long and targets Heads of Departments and General
Managers to ensure they set the right example on a daily basis. It
encourages them to make maximum use of the tools available so they can respond
to Responsible Business demands from stakeholders as diverse as guests, employees, property owners and the local community.
JULY
Green Key Global Eco-Rating Program. Carlson Hotels, Americas selected the Green Key Global eco-rating program as its preferred green lodging certification program. Green Key ranks, certifies and inspects hotels based on their commitment to sustainable operations and practices.
Green Key’s program allows our entire portfolio to use a consistent set of sustainable hotel standards and recognizes environmental efforts on a property-by-property basis.
The Green Key evaluation is a comprehensive 160-question audit covering a broad range of operational areas and sustainable practices. Based on the resulting tabulations, a property is awarded a ranking of one to five keys and receives a comprehensive performance report. Participating properties are listed on the
