Radisson Bed Linens Go Green. A new fabric, which uses 100 times less water than cotton in its production, is making its debut in Radisson properties in the United States. Radisson is the first hotel brand in the US to introduce luxurious bed linens made from Tencel+Plus™ Lyocell. The fabric, produced by Austria’s Lenzing Fibers and sold by Valley Forge, is derived from eucalyptus trees grown in Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forests which are protected from overcutting. FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not- for-profit organization established to promote responsible management of the world’s forests.
Tencel+Plus is expected to be popular with guests for its sustainability and comfort. It provides natural thermo-regulation, moisture management, reduced bacteria growth and smoothness for sensitive skin. The fabric also offers durability, as it is able to sustain rigorous commercial washing. It is the only FSC certified fiber that can contribute to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification points. After its useful life, an established reclamation program redistributes the product.
All Radisson hotels in the Americas will be implementing the new fabric in their duvets. The linens will be required for all upper- upscale Radisson Blu hotels opening in the US and recommended as a bedding option for all upscale Radisson hotels in the region.
Country inns & Suites Ditch Disposables. Country Inns & Suites is making the unusual move of swapping out disposable plates for reusable ones. Limited-service hotels like Country Inns typically use disposable plates to avoid having to stock dishes and wash them, which also reduces labor costs.
Country Inns & Suites, decision to roll out china or melamine dishes in all hotels not only complements the chain’s recent system-wide breakfast upgrade, which features new hot dishes and fresh fruit, among other items; it is also a more sustainable solution, reducing waste.
Plastic Uniforms? What can you do with 25 recycled 2-liter plastic bottles? Did you guess that a hotel front desk uniform can be created? At Country Inns & Suites and Park Inn by Radisson, new front desk uniforms are available from the Cintas Regeneration™ Suiting Collection made of 100% recycled polyester produced entirely from post consumer waste.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, apparel made from recycled material uses 66% less energy compared to the manufacturing of polyester fiber. The process also reduces water usage by 90% and helps eliminate harmful air emissions.
Now our front desk associates can look terrific while helping the environment.
Quality and Social Responsibility Go Hand in Hand. The coffee industry is one of the most impoverished industries in the world while being one of the most heavily
traded commodities, yet purchasing is often done without considering the human impact.
When Radisson began the search for a new in-room coffee supplier, it found a supplier of exceptional quality specialty grade coffees that not only had the quality coffee we were looking for, they also shared a similar commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
BD Imports is an importer of green coffee (un- roasted) from sustainable sources in coffee- producing countries. They are fully engaged in the fight to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger through their commitment to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, the principles of the United Nations Global Compact, and the work of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance.
BD Imports’ coffee also won Radisson’s blind taste test evaluating flavor, body, aroma and strength–proof that quality and social responsibility go hand in hand.
