Not My Life. This powerful documentary chronicling human trafficking and slavery, received generous support from the Carlson Family Foundation, and premiered at Lincoln Center in New York City in January 2010.
Not My Life, narrated by actress Ashley Judd, probes the dark, hidden and often unspeakable realities of multibillion dollar global industries that earn their profits, as the film’s narration says, “on the backs and in the beds of our planet’s youth.”
A 10-minute trailer of the movie is also used in the Living Responsible Business child protection module exposing participants to the sad reality of child trafficking around the world.
US Department of State Program: Combating Trafficking in Persons. Carlson Hotels, Americas supports the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) focusing on combating trafficking in persons.
Carlson Hotels, Americas uses this opportunity to raise awareness of the problem with
potential future world leaders, sharing practical examples of what a global hospitality and travel company can do—and how they can partner with other companies, government and non-profits—to protect children around the world from becoming victims.
Carlson Hotels, Americas has partnered with the Minnesota International Center (MIC) since 2010, hosting visitors from the Philippines, Turkey, Germany and, most recently, Mexico.
The IVLP is a prestigious program for current and emerging leaders in politics, government, education and media. Founded in 1940, the organization fosters understanding between the US and other countries through short- term visits that reflect the international visitors’ professional interests. Alumni of the program
include current and former heads of governments from 40 countries in the Western Hemisphere, Europe, the Near East, Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, and South and Central Asia.
