Park City Makes History in Just 24 Hours

In an age when consumers are more likely to trade crowded stores for the one-click convenience of the Web, it’s no surprise nonprofits are looking that direction to capture donations, as well.

On Nov. 11 (11/11/11), Park City’s nonprofits united

for ‘Live PC Give PC’, a one-day online crusade to raise money for local charities that do everything from maintain hiking/biking trails to provide food, clothing and scholarships to those in need.

The campaign was the first of its kind in Utah and raised more than $400,000.

“We knew the event would be historic, but we really didn’t know how much would be donated,” Trisha Worthington, executive director for The Park City Foundation, the event’s chief organizer. “We challenged this community to come together and give what they could for the people and organizations that play major roles in our every-day life. The response was astounding.”

The Park City Foundation partnered with Razoo, a Washington, D.C.-based company that has helped raise more than $52 million for thousands of causes throughout the nation. The foundation hopes this will be an annual event.

Music Store Mixes Sweet

Sounds, Coffee Grounds Playing outside is a given in this snow-covered town. But playing inside is also a popular pastime, especially for those with a six-string instrument.

Come apres ski time, fondue and bevvies go down even better with the help of our talented local singers and songwriters, many of whom frequent a new shop on Iron Horse Drive that carries the city’s premier guitar collection.

Riffs Acoustic Music, owned and operated by the father- and-son team of Larry and Steven Hart, offers up guitars from the likes of Martin, Santa Cruz and Taylor, to name a few.

“We’re a family that receives a lot of joy from music and we want to share that joy with our friends and neighbors”, says Larry, the store’s owner. “We opened the guitar shop to not only provide quality instruments, but also to cultivate a gathering place for musicians and music lovers alike.”

Riffs Acoustic Music offers lessons in everything from guitar and banjo to mandolin and voice. The space also includes a stage for local musicians to perform and Riffs Coffee Bar, a cozy nook where cappuccino, flavored lattes and teas are whipped up by music-loving baristas and delivered with a smile.
