Q: For someone that hasn’t come across Organised Little Things before, how would you describe it to them? A: An extra pair of hands, a solution to tight deadlines and an opportunity to gain valuable time back for the weekend. Organised Little Things is a professional organising service creating time saving solutions for busy professionals and families. We can take on a task completely or we can work with you in building strategies to create time for the future. Q: How did the business come about? A: A little seed was planted about 17 years ago after helping out with a few house moves and decorating projects. I also have a knack for fitting things into spaces that most people wouldn’t even attempt, like packing a holiday suitcase, storage under the stairs or planning a party at

home. As well as being organised I am a very practical and visual person. A: I am lucky to have had roles within my career that have been full of variety enabling me to learn and develop a great

I’ve worked in an interior design showroom, designed and created an operations manual for a blue chip company, I’ve worked as a corporate PA and had the privilege to mentor and train people from age five – 80 through high profile community projects. Life experience plays a major part in tackling the challenges for an organised life. Q: What are your top tips for getting ‘organised’ for the New Year? A: Be realistic – some people are so far down the line with their life being completely disorganised that it becomes impossible to take the first step. So take it one drawer at a time, quite literally. Break it up – when you’re a child


and learning through play, everything is segmented or categorised by colour, shape or size, like a shape sorter. If you apply this to your life, at home, the office or with the family it can be the starting block to focusing on how you utilise your time for every part of your life. Never have more than five things


on your to do list. More than five tasks is overwhelming and completely unachievable in most people’s busy lives. Get everyone involved – if you have a


full household or office, everyone should be involved in reaching that goal. I am a firm believer in starting from an early age and teaching life skills to your children or apprentices in the office. A ‘jobs board’ or team action plan demonstrating shared tasks is a perfect way to team people up – especially siblings – who may not normally work together. It also means all tasks get done. tidy-ups and quick finds. Q: What do you specialise in? A: I never see a problem, only solutions. Q: What makes your business offering unique? A: Organised Little Things offers more than just a service to save you time, it can bring a completely new way of life. We go the extra mile by offering strategic solutions to the permanently disorganised for short-term and long-term situations. Q: Does having a ‘virtual’ business present its own challenges? A: Indeed, no one can see you. Getting out and networking is critical to build

relations and gain trust from others who may recommend you. When you provide a professional service, you are the product. Q: What’s been your most unusual request to date? A: Displaying shell collections in a unique way, writing stories about ‘naughty’ horses and a few it’s probably best not to mention! Q: How has the business grown since it started? A: My client base has grown steadily to date, and I have gone from eight hours a month to a full week and therefore I have seen an increase in sales by 200 per cent. The New Year brings a more promising return in terms of profit as new clients come on board and the overheads lessen. I think it’s quite encouraging in the current economic climate, I’m really proud of what I have achieved in my first year and I am looking forward to the next. Q: What’s the plan for the future? A: Building on the ‘Organised Little Things’ brand image so it becomes recognisable as a professional and reliable service that new clients can happily recommend to family, friends and businesses. In a few years I’d envisage developing a team who can continue to provide an excellent service to the wider client base. SL
