Instructors Honored at Appreciation Night
any of MAC’s instructors and members who participate in daily group exercise classes attended Instructor Appreciation Night on Thursday, Nov. 8. The grand prize of the event, the Joan Harmony Award, is given in memory of an inspirational instructor who lost her battle with cancer several years ago. This year’s award was given to Dance Program
M
Assistant Melissa Nornes, whose bubbly and enthusiastic personality makes her a favorite of the many talented people who work hard in many areas of MAC. Nornes came to MAC five years ago and teaches around 11 classes per week to people of all ages. She has a special gift for teaching young children and has not only inspired these children with her love for dance, but also has developed long-lasting bonds with the dancers and their families. Nornes helped develop the Dance
With Your Toddler classes and the popular Princess Dance Camps. Her dedication has shown beyond her duties, as she has stayed up all night making tutus for three year olds to wear in their mini recitals. Nornes embodies the MAC’s values of respect, balance, trust and most of all, FUN.
The event was a well-attended and fun evening. The Group Exercise and Dance Committee also gave special thanks to Darrell Duvauchelle, the coordinator of this program, and also to Andrea Sexton, who has been a motivational Zumba instructor and has provided the music and entertainment for the event for the last three years.
The evening started with the award ceremony and a delicious authentic Mexican dinner, and ended with Zumba dancing by all the members and instructors in attendance. We hope that in the future we have more members participating in this fun event – and let’s keep dancing!
