Triathlon Kicks off New Season this Month
T
he MAC Triathlon and Running Committee welcomes all MAC members to its annual 2012 kickoff meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23. The committee presents an outline of the 2012 year, with running races, triathlon races and the training available to MAC members interested in partici- pating on all levels. Meet triathlon coaches Bridget Dawson and Linnea Alvord and the new running coach, Sean Coaster. There is a brief slide show of the past year, time to share stories, an open discussion of the organized training sessions and plenty of time for questions. Triathlon training starts off with Sunday runs in the morning in January with Thursday pool swims in the evening. A new emphasis this year is working on transitions, as well as doing more brick training, and some new workshops on bike maintenance.

11. This year there is an additional event, the 10-10-10, which measures how much distance a person can cover in the swim, bike and run in 10 minutes in each sport. The regular indoor tri still includes a given distance over time.
There are track workouts on Thursdays, Sunday runs, and pool swimming with bike spinning to follow on Saturdays until May,
when the organized open water swims with optional bike rides to follow at Hagg Lake begin.
