Evening Group Reads Epic WWII-era Tale

vening Literary Readers enjoy Laura Hillenbrand’s new book, Unbroken, an epic tale of individual heroism and fortitude from the second World War, on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. Louis Silvie
Zamperini was born in 1917, a wild and willful child who did not find a focus in life until age 14, when his brother Pete urged him to run the mile. So he did, smashing records and wind- ing up in the 1936
Berlin Olympics. He finished eighth in the 5,000-meter final and went home determined to go for gold in Tokyo in 1940 and break the 4 minute mile. But Pearl Harbor disrupted his plans. He was drafted into the Air Force and on May 27, 1943, while flying over the Pacific his plane crashed and sank, thus beginning a tale of survival and reclamation. Not all tales were told of World War II in the 1950s and 60s, and here Hillenbrand marches World War II literature right back into the spotlight!
The group meets in one of the private dining rooms. Plans for 2012 include reads by Thornton Wilder and Joseph Conrad among others.

Morning Book Club Skips January
embers of the MAC Morning Book Club have decided not to meet in January due to past experiences with meetings being canceled due to inclement weather.

The club discusses Help by Kathryn Stocket on Thursday, Feb. 9. This book has been on best seller lists and was made into a movie that closely follows the book. Morning Book Club meets at 10 a.m. on the second Thursday of the month. Please check at the Front Desk for the meeting location. For questions please call Member Services at 503-517-7265.
