Oakwood Duplicate Bridge The Oakwood Duplicate Bridge Club
games are now held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S Alma School Road. Open games are held on Monday at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9:00 a.m. except the second Saturday of the month, which starts at 12:30 p.m. There also is a Novice game Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at the Oakwood clubhouse. Gordon Markham Gordon Markham resumes his bridge
classes in January. On Monday mornings we have Boot
Camp Bridge. This course is not for beginners. It is for people who have played some bridge and want
to “update” their
bridge. It teaches how to successfully handle the second and third rounds of bids. It also teaches the modern conventions: Stayman,
Jacoby Transfers, strong 2 Club
Openings and the responses. Boot Camp Bridge starts Monday, January 9, and runs for fi ve weeks. It is held in the Greenbriar Room of Oakwood Country Club from 9:00-11:15 a.m. The cost is $50, plus $14 for the cost of two texts. On Thursday mornings
there will be
a class on Play of the Hand. All levels of bridge players will benefi t from this class as we teach you, the Declarer, how to get all of the tricks you deserve. Play of the Hand starts Thursday, January 12 and runs for fi ve weeks. It is held in the Greenbriar Room of Oakwood Country Club from 9:00-11:15 a.m. The cost is $50, plus $11 for the cost of the text. Both social and duplicate bridge fi nd these two classes

start on
January 2. This game is held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church. You will need a partner, and Janis asks that you be there by 1:00 p.m. to get the game started on time. bidding correctly is harder than play of the hand. Since there are no secrets at the bridge game, it is imperative that you DO bid correctly as the defense has a right to know what you are conveying to your partner in order for them to defend the hand. In the Sun Lakes Club we do not open or overcall a NT with a singleton or void. Thus you should be able to count on the person saying NT to have at least two in every suit.
