Grammar Bowl The deadline to register for the
2012 Arizona EGUMPP Grammar Bowl is Jan. 7. The academic competi- tion for eighth and ninth graders focus- es on grammar concepts and terminol- ogy and is open to students throughout the state. The Arizona Grammar Bowl offers
students an opportunity to win scholar- ships, prizes and a trip to Washington, D.C. The entry fee for the Arizona Grammar Bowl is $29 per student. Also eligible for the Grammar Bowl are home-schooled students who are 13-15 years old as of Sept. 1, 2011. There are four stages of competi-
tion: Preliminaries, Regionals, Semi- Finals and Finals. Prizes for the 2012 EGUMPP Grammar Bowl include $100 gift cards and T-shirts to the 90 semifinalists; $200 gift cards and T- shirts to the top 24 finalists; Beats By Dr. DreMonster high-definition noise- canceling headphones to the top 16 finalists; iPads (approximate retail value $500) to the top eight; a $5,000 schol- arship to the school of their choice to the top four finalists; and a four-day trip for four to Washington, D.C. to the champion. CenturyLink have partnered to launch the Third Annual “Team Assist” pro- gram, a community outreach initiative designed to provide new basketball equipment to two Arizona high school varsity basketball programs. High school varsity basketball players
and coaches, along with teachers and parents throughout Arizona, are encour- aged to log on to
www.suns.com/assist to nominate their team. Entry forms must be submitted by Monday, Jan. 16 and will be judged on their school’s need for new equipment. Two high schools will be selected as
recipients of a $5,000 donation, cour- tesy of CenturyLink, to be utilized for the equipment outlined in their pro- posals. The donation will be distrib- uted evenly between the boys and girls programs at each high school. In addition to the $5,000 donation,
the Suns will host both high school bas- ketball programs at a Suns home game during the 2011-12 season.
