THE INTERSECTION AIN’T NUTTIN TO F*** WITH, at least when hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan rolls into town as part of its Wu Fest Tour. Veterans of the ‘scene,’ Wu-Tang kicked off the careers of many hip hop artists – RZA, GZA, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Method Man, Old Dirty Bastard (RIP) – and left its indelible fingerprints on almost every aspect of rap and hip-hop: from the use of slang and sampling tracks to production techniques and the rise of mafioso themes and personas in rap of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Members were some of the first artists to become involved in fashion and syndicate their image throughout mainstream culture in- stead of keeping within the hip hop sphere. Several of the collective’s affiliates have gained huge success from Wu-Tang’s influ- ence. Nas, Busta Rymes and Kanye West are some to name a few. Perhaps you’ve heard of them.
