TURNING CHALLENGES INTO OPPORTUNITIES


At the start of a New Year, Stephen Morrell of Sash UK reflects on the investment and hard work that has kept Sash UK moving forward, despite the challenging economic conditions of 201.


“Over the years we seem to have mastered


the art of re-invention, moving with the times and adapting to changes in the industry, while retaining the key things that differentiate us from competitors of quality, innovation, friendly customer service and efficient technical support. With more than 50 new customers onboard this year alone, we must be doing something right and we are so grateful to those companies for recognising this and voting with their feet.”


“Neither could we be without the


numerous businesses that have continued to support Sash UK since the 1990s, and which have been integral to shaping the way we work with them through regular customer panel meetings and feedback questionnaires.


DEFYING THE ODDS


“This year’s growth has defied the odds - with October 2011 being our best month since October 2008. This has lead to a significant increase in production at our factory in Yorkshire, the original capital of industry, boosting local economy by providing jobs for more than a dozen extra staff to supply the demand. We’ve always been proud of our contribution to the regeneration of local communities. And with significant contracts secured for next year through our commercial department, we already have another recruiting drive planned for the early part of 2012.


“Working closely with our operations team and trusted suppliers, we have achieved our goal this year of becoming a ‘one-stop shop’ by investing and streamlining to improve factory efficiencies and service levels so that core product lines can be brought in-house. This, in turn, has shortened lead times and made prices more competitive - while still retaining the same high levels of quality that people have come to expect from Sash UK.


“We have made way for the introduction of new lines, such as the full VEKA composite door suite, available in both VEKA Matrix and VEKA FS (fully-sculptured)

profiles which has already generated enthusiastic feedback from customers, as well as enhancing Sash UK’s comprehensive portfolio of windows, doors, conservatories, decking, fencing and ancillaries.


INSTILLING CONFIDENCE “The development of a comprehensive


range of marketing support packages that rivals anything currently out there, has also helped to instil confidence in both our new and existing customers. We understand that marketing and promotion can be costly and time-consuming, so we produce professionally-designed brochures and online resources that are totally bespoke and tailored to the individual needs of each customer giving them everything they need to promote and sell our products. We’ve even given our own website a revamp this year to include more useful information and an interactive blog, to be more accessible and user-friendly. In addition, Sash UK has also introduced a 24-hour online ordering and pricing service making it even easier to buy from us.


“Our environmental approach has had a real boost this year too. Energy-saving lighting was commissioned in June 2010 and since then, overall electricity usage has fallen by 16 percent whilst output has increased by 6percent, helping to minimise the impact on the environment and allowing for the


associated cost-saving benefits to be passed directly to Sash’s customers.


As a manufacturer, we have an obligation to act responsibly and future-proof the company for our network of customers, suppliers and staff. This year has seen us overcome challenges and turned them into opportunities by being proactive and responding quickly to feedback. So I’d like to finish by thanking everyone involved for their determination and dedication. I wish them every success for 2012. If we can top the year we’ve just had, then who knows what we can achieve together?”
