MACHINERY RENTAL IS ENABLING BUSINESS GROWTHAND HELPING FABRICATORS PLAN FORTHE FUTURE

elumatec UK has just announced it is making more than £1million of additional funding available through its machinery rental scheme.

The rental scheme allows businesses to acquire the machines they need now, with the flexibility to change or upgrade their machines in the future. This helps fabricators meet current contract demands and take advantage of opportunities in the market.

One company for which the elumatec rental scheme has assisted a rapid expansion plan is Cambridgeshire based aluminium curtain walling, window and door fabricator Ayton & McKeown.

Focused very much on continually reducing lead times, Ayton & McKeown is working towards full automation. This began by acquiring an SBZ 122 CNC machining centre through the elumatec rental scheme.

A growing order book and healthy customer base meant that at the start of

2011, Ayton & McKeown needed to consider increasing production capacity and look to further automate its fabrication processes.

Accommodating the new and additional

machinery required would mean moving to larger premises. This is where the elumatec rental scheme became an essential tool in the business’s growth plan.

Dan Ives, director at Ayton & McKeown said: “Our priority during the move to our new site was to affect production as little as possible. We certainly had to maintain our lead times.

Rather than disassemble the existing SBZ 122 CNC machine and move it to the new premises we decided that, since the next step in production growth was to upgrade to the elumatec SBZ 130, we would take advantage of the ability to use rent paid on the SBZ 122 towards a new machine.

We also chose to have a period of overlap and completely set up the new factory before

moving into it. elumatec delivered and commissioned the new machinery, trained the operating team and then in late August, when we were fully ready, we simply spent a weekend moving from our old site to our new one. elumatec then dismantled the SBZ 122 and took it away. It worked perfectly.

The ability to expand without business

disruption would not have been possible without elumatec’s rental scheme.”

Looking to 2012, Phil Heavey, managing director of elumatec UK said: “By responding to fabricators’ considerations and requirements in the current economic climate, elumatec is actively demonstrating its commitment to its customers and products.”
