The casino employs over 350 staff (1,500 in the whole resort) mostly locals but we have about 70 expats most of them in the gaming department.
How does the casino fit into the overall Kerzner Portfolio?
The casino is an integral part of Mazagan Beach Resort, opened in 2009 as part of Morocco’s “Plan Azur” (development of new international touristic destinations within the country). Kerzner International invested 380 million Euros in this project together with its partners. The goal of the Kerzner group is developing unique destination resorts with a very high level of customer care. The Atlantis in the Bahamas and in Dubai are among the most grandiose hotels in the world, while the One and Only chain of luxury boutique resorts catering to an upper class clientele. Mazagan is somewhere in between these two categories, thus a unique project within the group. We are a luxury resort with a wide offering of activities geared towards a middle and high class international crowd and the local elite.
You operate as part of a very luxurious resort featuring hotel, nightclubs, restaurants and a Gary Player signature golf course. How do you interact with these facilities? Are you stand- alone or do you complement each other?
All departments within the resort complement each other for a complete customer experience. Up selling and communication of activities of other POS are the norm at Mazagan. A casino player spending a weekend at the resort will use most hotel facilities during his stay, so it’s important that the receptionist in the casino be able to give the player information on spa treatments or the opening hours of the different restaurants. Most big events (concerts with international stars, exhibitions, fashion shows, poker tournaments, etc) organized at the resort also see the participation of all departments. Obviously there are market segments with special needs like groups of golfers who will focus on certain activities only.
How did you get into the industry and how has your career brought you to your current position?
I started my carrier in Hungary almost 20 years ago by “accident” and thought to spend a year or two in the business to change my life a bit. I worked in a hotel in Budapest where a casino
