Day in the life Review By Mitchell Grima

OVER the last six months, we have stepped inside the lives of a diverse range of locals. No profession has been out of reach and it has been a unique experience allowing us to understand the diffi cult, inspirational and sometimes extremely lucky days in the life of our talents.

The journey began with the effervescent personality of Ross Hutchison. We had a peek into the busy and long day of ‘Rossco’, fi lled with everything from horses and radio to Church and massaging. Next stop was Bruce Nevill, Principal of Penrith Christian School, to fi nd that schools have changed a great deal and it is easier than ever for kids to learn interactively. Penrith MP Stuart Ayres let us inside to his busy

offi ce and day fi lled with appointments and meetings until the sun goes down.

The Cranebrook Fire Brigade gave us a ride in their big red truck and a tour around the station to the living areas and equipment areas that keep our brave fi refi ghters ready for anything. We then jumped in the ring with one of Penrith’s most promising athletes-World Junior Octathlon champion Jake Stein. The 17-year-old trains out of the Parramatta Eels gym-boxing, lifting weights and balancing to cover every discipline.

Perhaps our most interesting day in the life adventure was with the St Marys Police. We rode along in the patrol car in September, witnessing random breath tests, house calls and an arrest, which gave us even more faith in the justice system. At the St Marys Outpost, the inspirational group of volunteers gave us a look into their work educating and helping both war veterans and youngsters. Penrith City Mayor Greg Davies showed us the meetings, ceremonies and welcoming events that make up his 14-hour day in offi ce. We also jumped on board with rugby league legend Mark Geyer who manages to fi t in radio commitments, publicity, fi tness and fi ve children into one day. Finally was inspirational businesswoman Linda Kemp from Complete Recruitment Solutions. Mrs Kemp has built her business based around quality not quantity and has a dedicated team around her. The staff at Nepean News would like to thank all of our interviewees for letting us into their lives and sharing their exciting stories.
