Pupils handle Fame!
In a flash of neon legwarmers and headbands, the Caterham School production of “Fame!” exploded onto the stage.
Shoppers enjoy festive fun, thanks to local school choir
PUPILS from Charles Darwin School’s year seven choir entertained shoppers at Waitrose in early December. The youngsters sang a selection of festive songs and thanked the store for donating the proceeds of its Christmas raffle to the school’s Make a Wish Foundation charity collection.
The year seven choir was formed during last month’s Anti-Bullying Week, when pupils took part in a range of activities, including a singing competition. “Bullying affects everyone - not just the bullies and victims,” said Louise Rees, deputy head teacher of the school in Jail Lane. It is important to raise awareness about the issues surrounding bullying and we work with all pupils and teachers on techniques for dealing with it, should it arise.”

The show tells the story of a group of performing arts students in New York and follows their journey to graduation. The characters are dancers, musicians and actors so the cast must be adept at all three disciplines. As the song goes - this is nothing short of ’Hard Work’.
Caterham students proved themselves master of all trades as the show dazzled through a fantastic marrying of dance, drama and music. The ‘leads’ (although this show really is an ensemble piece) were Abi Riches as Carmen, Louis Du Sauzay as Tyrone, Nikki James as Serena, Jonathan Ham as Nick, Joe McNeice as Joe, Steph Lindo as Mabel, Karolina Barasneviciute as Iris, Will Paxton as Schlomo, Amelia Borley as Lambchops and Harrison Osterfield as Goody. The teachers were beautifully characterised by Will Soer, Freddie Marryat, Bella Turner and Lydie Whitely, with a superb duet sung by Bella and Lydie.
