Talented teens eyeing “American Idol” or “X Factor” can get their start by entering Chandler’s Teen Talent Competition in January. Entry forms are due by Fri., Dec. 30.


Chandler area youth ages 12 to 19 who can sing, dance, rap, play an instrument or are in a band can audition for the city’s eighth annual talent show scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Fri., Jan. 20, 2012 at the Chandler Center for the Arts, 250 N. Arizona Ave. First- and second-place fi nishers in each performance category will receive a cash prize. The Chandler Teen Talent Competition will feature a variety of acts up to fi ve minutes in length performed by individuals and groups. General admission tickets are $5 at the door.


There is a $30 audition fee for each act, which


will be refunded if an act is not selected for the show. Every act will be screened through auditions, which will be held in early January at the Chandler Community Center, 125 E. Commonwealth Ave. Once entry forms and payments have been received, audition dates and times will be arranged. Participants must bring any recorded music to the audition. All music used in the act, recorded or live, must not contain profane lyrics. Categories for all talent acts will be determined after auditions. The entry form is available online at www.chandleraz.gov/teens, at all city community and recreation centers or by calling 480-782-2711. Competition rules are also on the city’s website, and questions can be directed to michael.ballard@chandleraz.gov.


Holiday baseball clinic hits it out of the park


The Louie Sluggers Baseball Club hosts a holiday baseball clinic for area youth Thu., Dec. 22 and Fri., Dec. 23 at the Pima Park Ball Field in Chandler. The two-day clinic, focusing on the fundamentals of hitting and fi elding, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon for boys ages 8 to 13, and from 1 to 5 p.m. for boys ages 14 to 17.


The Louie Sluggers Baseball club is an Arizona nonprofi t organization focused on developing the fundamental baseball skills of youth through fundamental skills clinics, agility training and


private and group lessons as well as competitive travel teams.


Louie Sluggers teams meet quarterly for team- building and fun family events. For its winter event, nearly 20 players from the Louie Sluggers 13U AAA/ Majors baseball teams met at Chandler Fashion Center to shop for underprivileged children chosen from the Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel Tree.
