The kit does not provide ceiling beams, again because it represents the year three version when the beams were no longer there. I initially intended to scratchbuild my own but instead purchased a set from a fellow modeller, K. Lee. Even if you are not going for a year one interior I highly recommend these features as they add far more realism to the kit.
I wanted the model to sit on its launch pad. Every version of this kit has been created in the same way with the landing gear in the down position. I wanted something different. Again, I had decided to scratchbuild my own but then opted to purchase a kit of the pad from TSDS. I am currently working on a method of having the landing gear retract and extend. Presently, however, it can be easily removed and snapped back into place for a variety of display options. The Robinson Family comes via Crow’s Nest and looks superb inside the model. The Dr. Smith figure is a combination of figure parts plus a custom head. The current Robot is the diecast Johnny Lightning release and the Alpha Control Guard a customised Tamiya figure. The exterior of the ship, as per year one, is finished in light grey, not silver. The interior is also a mixed bag of greys...
The interior lighting is my own, while the engine lights are from the good folks at Tenacontrols. I continue to work on this project and add little details here and there, but overall I am very happy with the model. With a little extra work and some detailed research, you, too, could turn your JII into a pilot episode version…
