a fun afternoon and many shops and cafés are staying open late and organising special offers for the occasion.

he festive season is a great time for getting the family together and organising an outing everyone can enjoy. Whether you head for the traditional entertainments such as a pantomime or a meal or prefer an activity involving fresh air and exercise there is plenty going on in the Ross area to keep all ages happy.
In Ross the Christmas festivities begin with the Light Event in the Market Place on Saturday, November 26th. With music, a torchlight procession and Wincey Willis to switch on the Market House Lights this promises to be

ily, and be honest if they are happy, usually everyone else is too. There will be a chance to meet Father Christmas at the Market House in Ross on December 4th and to hear about local Christmas traditions and those from far away.
Clearwell Caves is always a brilliant place to visit at any time of the year but the decorations and the way a children’s story is told in nine spectacular cav- erns makes this a must see for Christmas. From November 26th until Christ- mas Eve, children can see Santa in his underground grotto, choose a present, then follow delightful displays telling the enchanting story of The Very Hun- gry Polar Bear. Another exciting way to start the Christmas festivities is a trip on the Dean Forest Railway
Imagine the sound of a steam train pulling you through the mysterious forest
as Santa moves through the train to meet each child and present them with a worthwhile present. Adults are not forgotten and receive a miniature and a mince pie.
On Sunday December 4th there is a special Christmas event for the whole family at Westons Cider Mill at Much Marcle. Enjoy a glass of mulled wine and carols round the tree before buying gifts and local produce from the many stalls. Children can enjoy apple juice, free activities and a chance to meet Father Christmas’ reindeers At Symonds Yat there are a host of attractions for families, the Butterfly Zoo, hedge puzzle and laser tag are some of the attractions on offer. For the golfers in the family why not book the Santa’s Society Special at For- est Hills Golf Club. For just £25 a person you can start the day with coffee and a bacon bap before playing 18 holes. Then enjoy a Christmas lunch. Another gift with a difference is a trial flying lesson available from Here- fordshire Aero Club.
Ross Conservative Club has organised several special events including a Children’s Christmas party and Christmas party nights. And looking forward to New Year’s Eve they have organised a party with entertainment from Rain- bow Disco and a buffet.
