Cracker HOMES TREAT
IF YOUare going to give your home a face-lift, do it methodically, room by room, area by area. First decide where you are going to start. Look at each room with a critical eye, decide how it may be improved. Perhaps the soft furnishings need replacing? Or a new carpet from Ideal Carpets could be a good idea? Redecorating could mean the whole business, repainting, fresh wall
coverings, new light fittings. Ask yourself if you are capable of coping alone, be honest and don’t over-estimate your own abilities. If not, send for the experts (see pages 44 and 45). If you get your call in early, you stand a chance of being ship-shape in time for Christmas. Once redecorated, you can commence ‘rebuilding’ the room. If you need a
new carpet, buy only one designed for the type of wear it will get in any particular area. Soft furnishings like curtains (which can be purchased from Essential Sewing) will always lift a room out of the doldrums and if they include matching cushion covers, loose covers and lampshades, so much the better. New furniture could mean as much or as little as you can afford or require. A
YOUR HOME, YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY
new three-piece suite might be a good idea or perhaps a couple of sofas, new dining suite, wall unit, or just an occasional table. Today’s furniture is a very worthwhile proposition combining as it does, traditional craftsmanship, materials of the 20th century and technologies of the second decade of the 21st. Today’s furniture is truly the antique collector’s delight of tomorrow. It may be of course, it’s a new kitchen you are after, or a luxuriously appointed bathroom? Both can be bought and fitted in an astonishingly short space of time. Maybe a set of replacement windows would better fit the bill or, a complete face-lift outside? On the other hand, how about a new garden shed, greenhouse or conservatory? You could go even further and consult a landscape designer to completely re-design your garden. Think of it, a patio, barbecue area, trickling fountain, shimmering pool with fish and water lilies, smooth lawns, colourful borders and mysterious shrubberies. All would add that extra something to your life at home, and now is the perfect time to plan. If you haven’t refurbished your home for a while, this Christmas may be the perfect opportunity and remember, if you do treat your home, you are also treating yourself and your family.
