Further Education (FE) courses If you are over 19 years old on 1st July 2012, you should apply for a Bursary/Grant from Student Finance NI using the FURTHER EDUCATION AWARD APPLICATION & ASSESSMENT FORM. The deadline for this is 30th June 2012, you must apply early to avoid disappointment. This form is available from Student Services and can also be downloaded from

Higher Education (HE) courses UK students studying HE courses may apply for a non-repayable means-tested maintenance grant. You also have the option of applying for a maintenance loan, to assist with living costs and tuition fee loan, to cover the cost of your tuition fees. You need to complete a PN1 form which is available from Student Services or you can complete online by visiting
www.studentfinanceni.co.uk.
EU students may apply for a tuition fee loan to cover the costs of your HE tuition fees. You should download a EU12N form available from
www.studentsupportdirect.co.uk This form should be returned to: EU Customer Services Team, PO BOX 89, Darlington, Co Durham, DL1 9AZ. Helpline tel. 0141 243 3570 Republic of Ireland students should contact your local VEC for eligibility for grants, or for students in receipt of benefits, your local Welfare Office for eligibility for Back to Education Allowance.
Hardship Fund The College may provide help to students with evidence of financial hardship via the College Hardship Fund. NI/UK Students who are 18+ may be eligible for Hardship Fund to help with costs such as fees, maintenance, travel, accommodation, books and materials. This is a non-repayable means tested fund. All Hardship Fund applicants should previously have applied to their local Education and Library Board (ELB) in the first instance. You can pick-up an application form from the College Student Services Offices.
Childcare
Full-time students may be eligible for assistance with childcare costs, for registered childminders only (including crèches, nurseries etc). You should apply directly to studentfinanceni.
Care to Learn is a scheme available to students aged between 16-20 years old, where you could receive full support for your registered childcare whilst you come to college to study. Apply to Student Services at your College.
Tips on applying for financial support Early application to your local ELB is advised because forms are processed in the order they are received. Phone your ELB for the closing date. Apply early, even if you are uncertain of the course you want to do, course choice can be altered at a later stage. Regardless of whether the College has offered you a place on a course, make an application to your local authority as you can change your course choice at a later date. Don’t delay by waiting for an offer of a place.
