Township Supervisor’s Letter Leyden Township is dedicated to providing strong leadership and coordination in our communities and is dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of life for our residents.


The Town of Leyden (Leyden Township) was established on April 2, 1850. It includes the Villages of Elmwood Park, River Grove, Franklin Park, Schiller Park, and all of the large unin- corporated area. Also portions of the Villages of Norridge, Park Ridge, Rosemont, Melrose Park, and the cities of Northlake and Bensenville. The Leyden Fire Protection District and the Cook County Sheriff’s police protect the unincorporated area.


Township tax dollars enhance the quality of life in Leyden Township by funding programs and provid- ing services such as:


Assessor: The Assessor’s Office provides assistance to taxpayers, real estate agents, appraisers and municipalities on property tax related matters which include:


• Completing Exemption Ap- plications


• Assistance with assessment questions


• Filing of appeals with Asses- sor’s Office and the Board of Review


• Assist with application for Certificate of Error


• Filling out form for Name and Address change


• Sales transfer history available


• Sidwell maps available for public use


• FREE Notary Public service for all assessment related docu- ments.


General Assistance is a public assistance program mandated by State law for adults that are ineligible for state or federal programs and who meet financial requirements providing monthly allotments for shelter, food clothing, personal essentials and transportation. Decisions of eligibility are made based upon state guidelines.

The Leyden Town Hall was re- located to 2501 N. Mannheim Road in 2000 to provide more of a “campus” atmosphere. The Town Hall, Highway garage and Senior Center are located next to one another, while our new Community Center is directly across the street.


The Township Board meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Tues- day of the month. Public partici- pation is always welcome.
