Hudson - Litchfield News | December 16, 2011 - 7 Mural by Alvirne Art Students at Post Office Learning in Litchfield

by Elaine F. Cutler, Ed. D., Superintendent of Schools, SAU 27, Litchfield School District

by Elaine F. Cutler, Ed.D. The holiday season has arrived, and I trust that the community has taken advantage of all the beautiful and joyful concerts that have been held this month. Productions at all three schools are a true reflection of arts in the schools, and a tribute to the Town of Litchfield. As a result of the power outages in October and November, the

submitted by Deborah Ballok, Alvirne High School Creative senior art students from Alvirne High School have once again brought holiday cheer to the community with their paintings on the Post Office windows at the Hudson Mall. The originator of the mural was Scott Dupuis (pictured with pencil and paper). Painters, Chris Brown and Erica Alpuerto completed the mural on site. They integrated the holiday stamp motifs of ornaments into “The Stealing of the Tree by Big Foot” (Yetti) where ornaments went flying. May everyone enjoy the efforts of these talented students and Happy Holiday wishes to all.

Litchfield School Board modified the school calendar. There will be school on March 13. This was previously a Teacher Workshop day. Teachers will now have two workshop days at the end of the school year. The Litchfield School Board has also approved the use of “Blizzard Bags” in the event of more inclement weather this year. In order for the day to count as a school day, the following conditions must be met: • 80 percent of the students in the district must participate or the day will not be in compliance with New Hampshire Dept. of Education (NHDOE) requirements

• Work must be turned in within two days of returning to school (48 hours)

• The work will be graded • If work is not submitted, the student will receive a “zero” for the day

Christmas Decorations at 23 Sycamore Street

Hours of operation: Monday through Sunday, 5 to 9:30 p.m. Lights out during

inclement weather and high winds.

• If work is not submitted, the student will be marked absent for the day The conditions for “Blizzard Bag” were determined by the NHDOE and a cross functional team of educators, parents and community members. “Blizzard Bag” work for three days was sent home with students prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. If your child did not bring the work home, please contact your child’s teacher. A Superintendent Search has been initiated with the assistance of the New Hampshire School Board Association. Parents and community members who wish to serve on the Selection Committee to recommend finalists to the Litchfield School Board should contact Deb Mahoney at dmahoney@litchfieldsd.org or at 578-3570, ext. 3331. Two parents and two community members are needed. Members must be available for two days during the week of January 30, 2012.

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Litchfield School Board, I extend warm wishes for a caring holiday season with your family and those you love. I would suggest that the gift of time with your children is more precious than anything you could purchase and will last through their lifetime. The Litchfield School Board takes great pride in our schools and welcomes your comments and suggestions. You may contact any Board member or professional staff member using the directory available at www.litchfieldsd.org.
