New year, new you, new gym W

hat’s your New Year’s resolution? To get fit? Lose weight? Spend more time relaxing with friends and family? Those must be the

most popular ones. Well, there’s a place in Exeter where you

can do all of this, and that’s at Exeter Golf and Country Club. Let’s start with the hard bit – getting fit

and losing weight. Of course, it’s easier said than done, but one fact which stands true is that it is actually easier than you think with the right support and in the right environment. Exeter Golf and Country Club offers both,

and from 1 January it’s been offering even more with the opening of its new gym. Just in time for all those enthusiastic

New Year’s resolutions, the gym at Exeter Golf and Country Club is the only gym and fitness centre in the city to combine state- of-the-art brand-new equipment within a boutique club environment. There is no compromise, you can now

enjoy a friendly, welcoming, accessible atmosphere with the very latest, most advanced equipment designed to offer the very latest in toning, resistance, cardio and free weights. The new top-of-the-range equipment

has been programmed for every individual gym member using FitLinxx technology. Gym members can log in to each piece of equipment and follow tailor-made

30 Exeter Living

programmes and monitor progress, including the ability to log in from home to review their workout afterwards – almost as good as having a fitness instructor available for every gym member all of the time. The FitLinxx programmes are ideal for

gym members who really want to see speedy improvements, or for those who are unsure of how to set the machines. FitLinxx also allows members to communicate with personal trainers via their online log in. This is revolutionary for the club and will ensure that all members can work closely with the team of personal trainers. For those of us who like to combine

working hard with a bit of entertainment, the gym now also features iPod connectivity on all the cardio equipment, new TVs, a new sound system and a DAB radio system. And it also feature two Trixter bikes, which

are a step up from your average exercise bike. They combine an advanced interactive exercise bike and computer system to create the ultimate simulation experience, including steering and different terrains. One of the unique features of membership

at Exeter Golf and Country Club is that it includes use of the club’s stunning indoor and outdoor heated pools. The indoor pool and spa was refurbished only last year and, like the gym, is part of a current £1 million investment programme. Of course, Exeter Golf and Country Club

will continue to offer a full range of studio classes and is one of the most forward-

thinking fitness centres in the region with free classes for gym members across the full range of holistic and aerobic classes. Perfect for those who live or work in

the city or nearby (although the club has members who also live abroad or elsewhere in the UK with its unique Country Membership), there can be no excuse for a slip in commitment to your fitness resolution this year once you join up – and throughout January there is no joining fee when you become a member of the gym, which like the rest of the club is open from 6.30am until 10pm daily. And if swimming and the gym isn’t for

you, you’ve always got tennis, racketball, squash or golf, plus plenty of family facilities, or everyone’s favourite – a good meal and drinks with friends within a wonderful setting, prepared by an acclaimed head chef (whose accolades include a Michelin Bib Gourmand). Perfect for that other resolution – time with

family and friends. Happy new year – your perfect day starts
