Acupuncture for Cancer Pain Acupuncture, an ancient mode of Chinese medicine, can help treat some cancer side effects and pain. Many patients use it to help with nausea caused by chemotherapy. Others find it eases the pain caused by cancer itself or treatment side effects.
During the session, a licensed acupuncturist inserts very fine needles into specific points on the patient’s skin. Patients usually wear regular clothing during the session.
Some patients may feel a slight poke as the needle goes in, but most only feel a little pressure. Most acupuncture appointments take less than 30 minutes. No special preparation is required.
