The Word Around Town... Letters to our Editor

for president in more than a generation not to be syntactically challenged and able to articulately carry the Republican banner. New Hampshire has perfected the art of retail politics and earned our “First in the Nation Primary” status. We have a long and storied history of vetting presidential candidates. As you weigh your choices in the coming weeks I appeal to you, now is the time for Mitt Romney.

Rep. D.J. Bettencourt, Majority Leader-Salem

Huntsman Te Most Realistic Choice For New Hampshire As a former resident of New Hampshire, I read Ed

Brooks’ letter trumpeting the virtues of candidate Rick Perry with chagrin. New Hampshire knows better, deserves better and can do with a better candidate. As of now, the leading candidates are loaded with baggage of all types and varieties; Rick Perry has his share, notably gaffes, of which, his latest was not knowing the voting age, a basic bit of political knowledge. But more than that, is New Hampshire

ready for another “decide-from-the belly” and “shoot- from-the hip” Texan? Didn’t we have enough of the Texas zeitgeist from the Texan who managed to bring America to the brink of disaster? Having traveled all over Texas, admittedly long ago,

from the Pan Handle to McAllen Valley, and from its western to its eastern borders, I can say with certainty that Texan swagger and ethos have little in common with New Hampshire’s characteristic style. According to Texans, everything is bigger and better than the rest of the U.S.; and contrary to Brooks’ praising Perry on foreign policy, Perry’s approach to foreign policy could be disastrous. It doesn’t take a Rhodes scholar to figure out why, initially on top, Perry is now struggling in the single digit category. But not is all lost among the candidates. Jon

Huntsman stands out as the most plausible candidacy from a slate of sorry wannabes, most with inexcusable gaffes, moral and ethical turpitude, extreme views or plain incompetence. I suggest that New Hampshire citizens give Huntsman a listen and compare his eloquence, experience and clean record to any other candidate. Jon Huntsman is real!

Dante Ippolito - Norwell, MA Special Advertising Feature An Open Letter to Gov. Lynch

Dear Governor Lynch, Many political pundits and those in the media

were quick to term yesterday’s House vote on your constitutional amendment regarding education funding in New Hampshire as a political ploy. However, the truth of the matter is that House Leadership had made a genuine effort on several occasions to reach out to you in an attempt to jump start negotiations in hopes of reaching an agreement on a sound bi-partisan educational funding amendment. Perhaps for the first time since the Claremont decision was handed down, I believe that the leadership in both the House and the Senate, along with the Governor, are truly committed to passing an amendment that will best serve the students of our state. I can assure you that House Republicans are committed to ending the restrictive confines of the Claremont decisions by passing a constitutional amendment that establishes the legislature as the sole authority on education and allows us to target education aid to the neediest communities. It was, and remains, a key part of the House Republican Agenda. Since January we have anxiously waited to receive

direction from you in hopes of making progress on bi-partisan language would be acceptable to both the House and Senate. Education and the proper responsibility of our government to provide it has been part of the political debate since our nation’s earliest days and we felt that it was time to take action and move forward by addressing your amendment on the floor of the House. Republican leadership in the House remains committed to accomplish a constitutional amendment on education funding as evidenced by the fact that we stood with you yesterday in support of your proposed legislation. In fact, several members of leadership supported your efforts through their vote, including myself as the Majority Leader, former Speaker, and current Speaker Pro Tempore Gene Chandler, Deputy Majority Leader Shawn Jasper, Deputy Majority Whip Betsey Patten, and Assistant Majority Whip David Hess, a veteran lawmaker who knows the issue

of education funding was well as any legislator in Concord. Educating the citizens of New Hampshire is our hope for the future of this great state. We believe that New Hampshire must provide its children an education based upon excellence. We are committed to advancing policies that achieve this goal. In order to be able to present an amendment on the ballot in time for the next election, it is important that we move quickly to come to an agreement. Time is of the essence in this matter and, to that end, we look forward to resuming negotiations as soon asA possible so that we can arrive at a bi-partisan constitutional amendment that we can all agree upon.

Rep. D.J. Bettencourt, Majority Leader – Salem Endorsing Romney

Next month Granite Staters will go to the polls to select a Republican nominee for President. I choose Governor Mitt Romney. Not only is Mitt the most conservative candidate who can win against Barack Obama, he is the best candidate. Mitt has used the time since his first run to master the issues facing America. Tis kind of hard work and discipline are exactly what’s needed. His plan seeks to reduce taxes, spending, and government regulations. He’s a supporter of free-market economics and limited government, the advancement of Origionalism on the United States Supreme Court, and a foreign policy based on our national interests. He believes government has a moral responsibility to spend less than it takes in. He has a real jobs plan that will encourage new and sustainable private sector employment opposed to the smoke and mirrors of Barack Obama’s “jobs” plan, which is simply another ploy to spend more of our hard earned money. Tis time around, America demands competence and experience that is attached to solid judgment. Now is the time for a sound CEO, someone ready and prepared to lead the country, on day one, through these difficult economic times. He is the first Republican candidate

Shopping CAN Be Fun! By Elizabeth Johnson By Elizabeth Johnson

Black Friday has come and gone. You either conquered the crowds to reap the benefits of discounts and sales or avoided it all like the plague.

What else do you avoid shopping for? See if any of these sound familiar: Do you take your daughter to the mall but never try on anything for yourself? Do you wear the same 2 or 3 pairs of pants because you fear the size you'll need to buy if you go to a store for new ones? Are shoes the only thing you focus on because, well, your feet don't change sizes if you gain 10 lbs.?

Are you left wondering, "Can shopping for clothes EVER be pleasant?”

Of course it can! Clothes shopping can be enjoyable under the right circumstances. When you head out with a positive self-image, a concept of how you want your personality to shine, and an understanding of your body's natural shape, trying on new outfits can be a very enjoyable experience! It is the opportunity to see your character, individuality and creativity reflect back at you in the mirror. You can create whatever canvas you want for yourself: sporty, sexy, chic, sheer...

Client Colette Lawrence says, “For over eight years I only talked about cutting back in my dietary habits and working out. I have always struggled with having self- discipline to go to the gym. After one last failed and frustrating shopping experience, I was now motivated; not to mention I was approaching fifty years old.
