“Thumbs down. It is cruel to take the maintenance department out of a grandfathered building with no place to carry on business.”

“Thumbs down to

Pelham’s four blind mice, scurrying around these ridiculous proposals. Pre-K? Are you kidding? Creating and adding more unnecessary financials burdens for the town tax- payer. Run out the rental terms on the kindergarten portables, and build the addition to the elementary. Complete the HBAC and necessary improvements to the high school buildings, permanently accommodating what we already own. Stop creating more financial burdens for the town tax-payers!”

“Thumbs down. Can

anyone tell me when the eye sore on the lots that cut down all the trees on Moeckel Road will be cleaned up? Please! We all have to look at it.”

“Thumbs up to all the people of Pelham who wrote in and complained about their property tax bill and how much it went up at a time when we all are just trying to keep our jobs, put food on the table, keep and pay our health insurance and then try to pay our mortgages, not to mention high gas prices and high home heating bills. all correct in expressing disappointment with our town officials for spending our money. The money that we do not even have. I was glad to read the complaints about town officials who feel we need new schools, new Fire Stations, more police, more equipment, more raises and just plain more, more, more. I only hope those of you who feel the way I do will please, please try to keep these thoughts in your head from now untill the next time we vote! We may not be able to vote some of these people out, but we sure can vote not to let them spend our hard earned money by sending a clear message and voting no on all questions related to spending. Please vote: no, no, no, and no. Thank you.”

“Thumbs down. Worst Festival of Trees ever. I

would have paid more to see the Town display in front of the fire department. Methuen does it right. Go and learn how it is done. I don’t get it with this town.”

“Thumbs down to supporters of the Windham

Librarian’s refusal to lend books to a Pelham child. I won’t weigh in on the librarian since I didn’t witness the event, but what kind of person takes enjoyment in denying a child’s desire to read? Isn’t Nesmith a ‘Public’ Library? The inter-library loan program should be used to accommodate these requests. I’ve lived in Windham 23 years and am embarrassed to think there are people

“Thumbs down to the Dunkin’ Donuts in the Hannaford Plaza for planning to be open on Christmas Day. Keeping employees away from their families on this of all days for a non-essential service is greedy and unfair. Boycott Dunkin’ Donuts on Christmas day.”

“Thumbs up Pelham people!

Now is the time to step up and vote yes to improve our schools! Let’s show Windham we don’t need their handouts we can take care of our own kids! To our well respected older population your children have benefited from Pelham’s schools in the hay day. You are currently reaping the social security, that we are no providing to you and which more than likely vanish by our retirement and be none existent by the time our children get old. The time has come to take a stand and pay it forward, vote yes for Pelham preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle school, and

high school improvements. We don’t need anything swanky, it’s not for show, it is necessity to grow with our population and deteriorating buildings. Pelham, let’s show pride in our community and solve our school issues once and for all. Don’t just talk the talk...walk the walk. Your vote makes a difference!”

“Thumbs up to the

Windham Zoning Board and their decision to stay late. With a lot to settle, the weary board trudged on thru midnight, making a decision on the matter of a simple shed. Despite protests from single, non-resident, common sense prevailed and the board allowed the new cottage owners to erect a small, 8’ x 8’ shed, thus completing their renovations of the previously abandoned eyesore. Kudos to the board for their tireless efforts and for their ability to see the big picture. It’s great when town government and democracy work for the people.”

“Thumbs up to great neighbors! New to the neighborhood, my wife and I needed a variance for some work we wanted to do on our newly purchased home. Our (very new) neighbor, who’d we’d met only weeks before, went to the town meeting and stayed very late to speak on our behalf. This is the same man, who rakes and clears my yard when I’m not home... and who’s wife cooked me a delicious turkey dinner! Great neighbors are rare these days...

and deserve many Thumbs up when one is lucky enough to have them.”

“Thumbs up to Pelham’s Festival of Trees, the beautiful decorations in Pelham Center, and to the upcoming Ice Garden! The friendly and caring people who make these things happen make this a wonderful place!”

“Thumbs down to our Pelham Selectmen for their smoke and mirror tactics. It’s bad enough

Thumbs Up? Thumbs Down? “We want to be your Mechanic”

that you ignore the will of the taxpayer majority which voted “No” on your proposed new fire station several times and continue to push this project in horrible economic times, but now you want to use the unreserved fund balance (tax money) to fund a new fire station instead of using that surplus money to lower our property taxes. You are still attempting to spend 3.9 million dollars of our tax money and trying to justify it with your wacky math. No Means No.”

“Thumbs down to the Pelham cop who reprimanded the young children in the tree on Jericho Road the day after Thanksgiving. The officer called them liars and delinquents; he then took their names and addresses and told them that they all now had police records (they were traumatized). I’m not sure what kind of power trip this officer is on, but his behavior was entirely inappropriate. Based on this one incident, these children will probably never trust or respect the police ever again. Neither will I. Nice job, Barney Fife.”

“Thumbs up... to a great way to support our

schools and teachers!!! Each parent send in 1 ream of paper for their child’s class (k3- 12). This will help out with the paper shortage due to tightening of the budget!! Then skip the mugs, ornaments and pitch in with the other parents in class and get your teachers a great gift card to their favorite restaurant or store!!!!”

“Thumbs up to Coach Derek and Mike. You put the meaning in, “It’s not just winning, it’s how you play the game.” Who knew you could play the whole team, teach them something, and have fun all at the same time?!! Good job and thank you!”

“Thumbs down to Windham. Are you kidding me? 40 computers to run the town and 40k per year in software maintenance? Whose brother-in- law runs those businesses? How about catching up to the real world with 1 or 2 servers and a number of inexpensive terminals? If the ‘preferred’ software can’t run on a server then it is antiquated and needs to be replaced anyway and buying 40 separate computers is a major waste of both resources and money, not to mention electricity.”

“Thumbs down. You all heard it before. Just

say no! Do they truly think our brains are fried? Not us, we have said no before and looks like they will need to be told again. They take our money and spend it how they please. Are they serious? We all know there are needs, and we want things too. The Capital reserve Fund is our tax money, not your personal slush fund, to build a bridge to nowhere. The rotary was not needed, and the money was not free. It came from someone. This shows your lack of respect for money. Did anyone say, heck we don’t need a rotary, but we could damn well use some other stuff? Huh? Maybe we need to fix the bump out so Hal doesn’t hit it. I feel like the Sheriff of Nottingham just came and took my gold and raised my taxes. Robin Hood says No and the voters will too. If you don’t say No, it will continue. All we ask is honesty and you never learn. Have a Holly Christmas.”
