Managing your cancer pain can provide better quality of life by allowing you to participate in and enjoy normal activities.
Pain management is an important part of cancer treatment. It lets you sleep better and participate in normal activities. Freedom from pain may actually help cancer therapies work better.
Cancer pain may result from the disease itself or from medical testing and treatment. Tell your health care provider about any pain that you experience. Be sure to notify your cancer care team immediately if you have any new pain, or if your pain gets worse.
Pain management strategies may include medication, acupuncture, massage, relaxation, hypnosis, and distraction. The pain management plan you and your health care team develop may include any or all of these methods. You may also consider seeing a pain specialist.
Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Pain Medicine and Palliative Care Program offers help with management of pain and other distressing symptoms. Their goal is to maximize the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. For more information, call the Huntsman Cancer Information Service at 801-581-6365 or 1-888-424-2100.
