From the Editor

One doesn’t need to be an artist to reap the benefits of art and design. This month we are celebrating local residents who contribute to the beautiful atmosphere we enjoy here in the Santa Clarita Valley. Several organizations are brought to our attention in a story on page 24. One of the missions for a group like the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association is to bring attention to local artisans. This month, our cover story is on Carrie Dawn Gordon, who I think has prompted a very unusual type of photography, and she doesn’t even use com- puter software. Read about Carrie on page 22.

If you have a house, then you know that it helps to have an artistic eye when it comes to decorating, which is why we also looked at interior design in this issue, beginning on page 20. And we can’t forget the film industry when we look at the arts. An extremely active entity here in our area is the Santa Clarita Film Festival, which you won’t want to miss next month. Read about the organization’s efforts on page 34.

If there’s an art to being married, we are bound to find a good resource in some local couples who celebrated 50 years together this year. Read about their marriage secrets on page 14.

As the year comes to a close, think of ways you can help make 2012 a beautiful one for those around you.

Numerous families entertain their friends and families with creative Christmas cards each year. This was one of our more artistic endeavors, from many years ago.
