FROM CAFÉ TO FINE DINING WELL-KNOWN CHEF GIVES NEW LIFE TO THE ISLAND CAFÉ B
elgian chef Peter Verelst, formerly of the well-known O Leão de Porches restaurant, has branched out on his own and has trans- formed the Island Café in Presa de Moura
into a fine dining restaurant.
As ever, the emphasis here is on quality, and the chef has created an exceptional menu based on his famous Belgian/French cuisine with a focus on fresh, seasonal produce. The new winter menu features dishes such as black pudding with terrine of goose liver to start, and main courses such as black pork with mushroom risotto and truffle sauce, whilst the desserts are equally indulgent. Guests can also enjoy a three-course menu at the special price of €28, and the wine list features exclusively Portuguese labels with an ever-changing selection of wines by the glass.
Although the menu is available at lunch, there are also 14 different salads to choose from, as well as a special two-course menu for €13.50.
The new-look restaurant is spacious with a sumptuous décor, set off by a cosy wood-burning fire and a strik- ing central chandelier, and the bar and lounge area is ideal for an aperitif or after-dinner drink. With a spe- cial menu for Christmas, New Year and Valentine's Day, it's clear that Peter has his sights set on turning the Island restaurant into the very best in the area.
