Innside
With a quiz night every Monday and Karaoke nights on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10pm, the well- established Safari Bar is the local of many residents. Open from 9pm until late from Monday to Saturday (open Christmas and Boxing Day), the cellar bar next to the Irish Times plays plenty of '80s and soul music, but bar manager Aaron will play anything the cus- tomers want. “Everybody knows everybody. Lots of bar staff and waiters come here, so it's a good place to come to if you need any local information or just some com- pany,” says Aaron, who strives to make everyone feel welcome, even if they're on their own and fancy a game of darts. Also popular with locals and a must for cock- tail lovers is Innside Caffé, set up by business partners Sérgio Vicente and Pedro Ferreira on the 'out road' in Carvoeiro. With a modern décor and original photo- graphs of film and music legends hanging on the walls, the bar (open every evening) is now run by Ivo and Carlos, with Pedro and Sérgio dedicating more time to their new venture, Absolutely bar in Praia da Rocha. Specialising in freestyle bartending, the entertainment is behind the bar, whilst upstairs there's a darts board and a pool table. Passionate about mixology and con- stantly innovating, the team is creating a winter menu with more of their molecular inventions. “It's a socia- ble place where couples can have a drink and actually have a conversation,” emphasises Pedro. By the square, Sully's also has live music planned, as does Harry's Bar at the end of the 'out road'. Car- voeiro Bar has regular music and DJs, and Boa Vida, Havana, Acordeão and Hemingways will also remain open, as will Bistro 72 with regular karaoke. The younger crowd can head to J Bar Bara, whilst the lovely Talvez bar at the top of Estrada do Farol has a saxophonist playing every Saturday. Most of the bars also take part in a darts league, which takes place every Friday throughout the winter.

new management gained inspiration from Wafaa's Moroccan roots to create a very different venue. With a small bar area downstairs, the young couple have put their heart and soul into the project, with much of the revamp work done by Wafaa herself. Although a work in progress, the bar's winter programme in- cludes live bands on Friday evenings playing reggae, jazz, soul or blues, and a DJ on Saturdays (including the well-known DJ China making an appearance on December 30), as well as a special New Year's per- formance. “We wanted to do things that can't be found elsewhere, and Wafaa has put incredible effort into that,” says João. Oficina is open daily from 9.30pm until late.
