NEW PRODUCTS Swappage scheme

ABB’s drives and motors swappage scheme allows companies to trade in their old drives and motors from any manufacturer for new ones from ABB. The scheme offers at least 17.5% discount off published list prices for new drives from 0.12 to 400kW and new motors from 0.75 to 710kW when old equivalent products are traded in. “The scheme originally launched to

coincide with the introduction of the government’s CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme has taken on new importance with the introduction of the EU MEPS legislation for minimum efficiency levels of low voltage motors. It aims to give organisations an add- itional incentive to meet their carbon dioxide reduction commitment and reduce their energy consumption,” says Steve Ruddell, head of global marketing – motors and generators.

Reliable air motor

Bad experience with the reliability of a vane air motor prompted Blue Manta International to look for an alternative. Although suitable for operation in ATEX environments, the existing model was inefficient in extreme conditions, a problem exacerbated by its inaccessibility for repair and maintenance. Both issues were resolved when the company switched to a Huco Dynatork piston air motor. The Huco

Dynatork piston

motor that Blue Manta chose is manufactured in stainless steel and supplied with a helical gearbox. For 80-90% of its utilisation, the unit serves as a back stop when the reel is in a holding position.Unlike a DC motor in a similar application, the piston air motor will not burn out or cause overload.

New from Technosoft, the iPOS Line is a new family of intelligent servo drives which offers higher power density on very compact boards. Designed to cover both low- and high-volume applications, the first models – iPOS3602 (36V, 2A, 75W) and iPOS3604 (36V, 4A, 144W) – are flexible motion control and drive solutions, modular at various levels, vertical (VX model) or horizontal (MX model) plug-in cards, open- frame PCBs that can be integrated on to the user’s motherboard. They embed all the basic motor control functions, motion control

typically three days. Parameters such as humidity and carbon dioxide concentration are also monitored and controlled throughout the process. Central to the storage processes is

use of an F740 variable speed drive from Mitsubishi. The F740 is the fan rated version of the F700 range of drives and offers improved motor efficiency during constant speed operation and acceleration periods, and optimum torque patterns which accurately match the power delivered to that required at any instant. The speed of optimisation is effectively instant, so the drive is always giving maximum performance and efficiency to the load.

Clean sweep to US

H J Weir has been providing separating, feeding, folding and stacking solutions for the laundry industry for over 50 years. Now the company is expanding into the USA, and is taking its long standing supply partnership, with ERIKS and WEG motors, along with it. In addition to the benefit of a

proven supply partnership, HJ Weir is also benefiting from the fact that WEG’s W22 range is already available in standard IEC frame sizes for the Premium Efficiency IE3 rating. This is important because the USA has introduced a policy of using Premium Efficiency motors only.Consequently, HJ Weir will not experience any disruptions, as regards motor specifications, as it develops its new direct activity in the USA.

British Airways and EMCOR an Altivar 61 VSD to test its performance and prove the return on investment it would deliver. BA was so impressed that it then took the decision to install drives on two star delta pumps, and with Schneider Electric’s assistance they now operate at 12kW each, compared to 90kW previously.

Parker Hannifin has launched new hydraulic motors, developed to provide efficiency and performance in demanding

applications including winch and hoist drives, cranes and other mobile and construction equipment. The V14 110 and 160 variable speed bent-axis motors offer a high power to weight ratio and feature hydraulic proportional control with pressure cut off, providing an easy to install and operate solution that is said to improve machine reliability, performance and productivity. Designed for use with open and closed circuits, they have a wide displacement range of 5:1, and are capable of operating at pressures of up to 480 bar with a displacement of between 22 and 160cc per revolution.
